Job description:

As a Lead Compounder, you will be integral to the Compounding Department, where your primary responsibilities will include handling chemicals and preparing adhesives for the coating process. You will oversee the daily operations of the area, which encompasses normal operations, troubleshooting, coordinating preventive maintenance, and making informed decisions regarding scheduling adjustments. In this capacity, you will provide direction and assign tasks to other compounding operators.

Shift: 7 PM to 7 AM, 2-2-3 – Building 5
Starting Hiring Rate: $27.29/hour plus a $2/hour shift differential

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety procedures, policies, and practices.
  • Maintaining a safe work environment for all employees, promptly identifying and escalating safety concerns, and supporting safety improvement initiatives.
  • Reviewing and adhering to the daily compounding schedule and making necessary adjustments to accommodate changing production needs.
  • Following standard operating procedures and the directives of higher-level technical personnel to monitor screens, meters, gauges, valves, temperatures, pressures, and related controls to ensure compliance with production and process specifications.
  • Unloading bulk tanker deliveries into Tank Farm tanks.
  • Keeping accurate production records and logs regarding equipment and product performance.
  • Operating tow motors and staging materials for adhesive and silicone lacquer batches.
  • Leading shift turnover discussions, communicating daily priorities to your team, and maintaining the MDI board.
  • Assisting and supporting team members to achieve department and site goals, actively participating in all necessary tasks to operate the area, and contributing to team decision-making.
  • Serving as the lead trainer for new compounding department employees.
  • Being accountable for daily production maintenance, preventive maintenance, and housekeeping tasks according to established standards.
  • Participating in group problem-solving teams and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting ELS initiatives aimed at enhancing manufacturing performance, including throughput, scrap reduction, safety, ISO work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Undertaking any additional functions as required, including performing preventive maintenance tasks in collaboration with engineering and maintenance at the operator level.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) or a minimum of three years of relevant manufacturing work experience.
  • A strong commitment to safety as a core value, with a willingness and ability to work safely, consistently wear PPE, and serve as a role model for adherence to safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • An emphasis on quality and service, with the ability to address issues effectively when they arise and take the initiative to understand root causes, communicating and educating the team in a timely manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend documents related to product manufacturing.
  • Capability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Availability to work during designated hours and accommodate a reasonable amount of overtime, including weekends and short-notice requests.
  • Proven initiative, integrity, and sound judgment.
  • A demonstrated track record of engaging with and contributing to daily ELS processes and tools, such as MDI, standard work, and 5S.
  • A positive attitude, robust work ethic, and reliability.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, particularly strong transactional skills using ERP systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds periodically throughout the shift.

Preferred:

  • Five years of experience in a skilled labor position with a demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  • Five years of experience in compounding.
