Job description:

Assists the Branch Lead or Senior Librarian in the daily operations of the branch, encompassing circulation management, reference services, material selection and processing, special programming, public computer assistance, and outreach initiatives. The role may involve assignments at the Main Library across various departments or at a branch library.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver friendly and informative service to library users.
  • Manage circulation activities by entering data into the computer system, searching customer files, and facilitating the registration of new patrons.
  • Utilize the library’s automated system to check materials in and out.
  • Fulfill requests for reserved materials.
  • Perform various collection-related tasks as assigned.
  • Provide research assistance to patrons, aiding them in accessing both manual resources and electronic information.
  • Develop and present innovative programs tailored to designated patron demographics.
  • Conduct training sessions for patrons on the use of library technologies and services.
  • Offer reader advisory support as required.
  • Execute a range of routine clerical duties, including maintaining records and managing fine collections.
  • Participate in training sessions and special educational activities as directed.
  • Represent the library at promotional events and activities as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:
Work under the general guidance of the Public Services Coordinator, Director, or another designated supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
May oversee the daily activities of library pages as assigned.

Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • High school graduation from an accredited institution (GED acceptable).
  • Required proficiency in computer skills and completion of college-level studies.
  • Previous library experience is highly desirable; relevant work experience may substitute for an Associate’s degree.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, interest, and appreciation of literature and other information resources available at the library.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development through additional education and workshops.
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication, mathematical principles, and computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook).
