Full-time position from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Purpose of This Position
The Life Enrichment Assistant plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in the Terrace and Courtyard by supporting the Life Enrichment program. This position operates under the guidance of the Life Enrichment Coordinator while independently leading activities for residents. Availability and hours for the Life Enrichment Assistant position are contingent upon occupancy levels and require approval from the Controller at Heritage Property Management.
Qualifications
Candidates for the Life Enrichment Assistant position are selected based on their positive and respectful demeanor toward individuals with dementia. Ideal candidates will demonstrate maturity and the ability to effectively manage the job’s demands. Relevant education and experience working with frail elderly individuals, including those living with forms of dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease, is essential. Coursework or experience in gerontology is preferred. The candidate should exhibit compassion for serving the frail elderly population, possess innovative and creative thinking abilities, and have the capacity to read, write, and follow directions. A successful background check and random drug screening are mandatory.
Essential Functions
- Familiarity with the GEMS: Positive Approach to Dementia Care.
- Establishes GEM boxes to promote active engagement among residents with dementia.
- Directly interacts with individual residents and small to large groups, developing and leading engaging activities, including exercise, music sessions, crafts, manicures, and household activities (e.g., folding laundry, setting tables, washing dishes, sorting silverware, and dusting).
- Collaborates with the Life Enrichment Coordinator to plan special events, including musical programs, outings, and family events.
- Assists Resident Service Assistants in implementing GEM concepts.
- Prepares activity materials for residents, including craft projects, games, puzzles, and manicures with a selection of polish colors.
- Ensures compliance with all Resident Rights, including maintaining confidentiality.
- Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary to fulfill the goals and objectives of the living center.
General Responsibilities
- Serve as a goodwill ambassador for the living center.
- Adhere to Life Safety policies and participate in periodic drills.
- Engage in training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Report any safety and health hazards to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across all shifts.
- Arrive at work as scheduled and treat all residents with dignity and respect.
- Observe residents for any changes in condition (physical, emotional, cognitive, or behavioral) and communicate these changes to the Shift Supervisor.
- Comply with infection control protocols.
- Follow the guidelines outlined in the Employee Handbook, including the code of conduct.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Capacity to stand, bend, twist, turn, stoop, squat, sit, kneel, pull, push, and walk long distances on hard surfaces for extended periods.
- Ability to perform physically repetitive tasks and tolerate exposure to varying temperatures and strong odors/chemicals used for manicures.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills with residents, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions in English.
- Emotional stability to manage resident care needs, including chronic illnesses, challenging behaviors, dementia-related issues, and the passing of residents.
