Job description:

A Lobby Support Specialist plays a vital role in fostering a welcoming environment for individuals seeking services, particularly those living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use challenges. Under the general direction and supervision of the Clinical Services Manager or Supervisor, this position entails greeting individuals as they arrive at the Mental Health Center lobby and coordinating with the injection clinic, front desk, and medication pod to ensure timely service delivery. The Lobby Support Specialist is responsible for facilitating the care of individuals by cultivating relationships with them, their families, guardians, support systems, and key personnel in their lives.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  1. A high school diploma or a certificate of completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test.
  2. A history of being a consumer of mental health services, with a primary diagnosis of a mental health condition and at least one (1) year of treatment.
  3. Strong personal knowledge stemming from lived experience with a mental health condition that has significantly disrupted daily life.
  4. Experience in navigating complex mental health treatment services.
  5. Self-identification as having a mental health condition that has caused substantial life disruption, accompanied by the willingness to share personal recovery stories to support others.
  6. A valid driver’s license, with the ability to obtain a Michigan Driver License within 30 days of employment.
  7. Reliable transportation that may be necessary for carrying out job responsibilities.

Preferred but Not Required

  1. Bilingual candidates are highly desirable.
  2. Experience in the Armed Services is valued.
  3. Knowledge of or lived experience with substance use challenges is preferred.

Physical Conditions / Work Location
The position primarily involves sedentary work, with occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.

The Lobby Support Specialist will be stationed within the office of Community Mental Health Services and the program location of HealthWest.

Additional Information
Applicants for County employment may be required to undergo a post-offer criminal background check, contingent upon the nature and assignment of the position. The offer of employment will depend on the results of the background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before their appointment can be regarded as permanent.
