Job Overview:
As a Maintenance Engineer I, you will be responsible for staying in constant communication via a portable radio, responding promptly to engineering service requests with a priority on guest needs, and ensuring the efficient and safe maintenance of hotel equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to and manage guest requests in a courteous, efficient, and safe manner.
- Execute preventive maintenance and perform necessary repairs on all hotel equipment, including kitchen, laundry, boiler, plumbing, pool, HVAC, electrical systems, and guest rooms.
- Oversee all engineering functions during periods when a full engineering staff is not present (such as weekends and evenings). Respond to emergency situations including fire alarms, bomb threats, disasters, and power failures; communicate with the appropriate authorities.
- Conduct routine inspections of hotel premises to ensure all systems are functioning correctly.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all equipment and work areas.
- Complete maintenance requests and record equipment and meter readings, ensuring proper communication and documentation for the next shift. Keep track of parts used and identify items that need to be ordered.
- Address elevator malfunctions when they arise.
- Uphold accurate records for the Rooms Preventive Maintenance and Request Programs.
- Ensure timely completion of daily work order request forms.
- Report any unsafe conditions to leadership.
Qualifications:
- Education/Formal Training: High school diploma or equivalent, with special courses in building maintenance and construction preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 6 months of proven experience in a comparable role.
- Knowledge/Skills:
- Proficiency in maintaining and repairing HVAC, electrical, and plumbing equipment, as well as undertaking carpentry, repair work, and renovations.
- Ability to drive a pick-up truck and operate snow removal equipment as needed.
- Capable of maintaining logs and records effectively.
- Requires a professional demeanor and the ability to work collaboratively within a team while making independent decisions.
Physical Demands:
The physical requirements of this position include:
- Ability to hear portable radios, fire alarms, machinery sounds, and guest inquiries.
- Capability to inspect and maintain equipment adequately.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying are required in response to service requests throughout the hotel and parking areas.
- Regular bending and kneeling for inspections and repairs.
- Complete mobility is essential to quickly respond to emergencies, including potential continuous standing.
- Ascending and descending approximately 90 stairs 20% of the time and climbing ladders up to 8 feet 10% of the time.
- Driving company vehicles (pick-up truck/snow plow) may be necessary approximately 10% of the time, or 100% during snow emergencies.
Environment:
Work entails exposure to a range of temperatures, both stable and extreme, and outdoor elements. Roles involve prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and heavy lifting.
