Location Description
The Post Consumer Brands facility in Battle Creek, Michigan—the cereal capital of the U.S.—is not only our largest manufacturing plant but also home to approximately 600 dedicated team members. By joining our Battle Creek team, you will contribute to the production of some of the most iconic cereal brands, including Honey Bunches of Oats, PEBBLES, Grape-Nuts, and Honeycomb. This location is historically significant as it houses the original barn where C.W. Post founded the Postum cereal company in 1895. Our Battle Creek team is deeply rooted in the community, supporting local initiatives such as the Cereal Festival, local elementary schools, and a variety of on-site volunteer events throughout the year.

Responsibilities
The Maintenance Planning Supervisor plays a critical role in managing, mentoring, coaching, developing, and standardizing the operations of the maintenance planning team. This individual is responsible for establishing best practices, metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance planning function. Collaborating with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams, the Supervisor drives enhancements in planning and scheduling processes at the site, ensuring equitable distribution of work among the planning team.

In addition to overseeing the planning team, the Supervisor serves as an active Planner, leading by example. This entails enhancing workforce productivity and ensuring high-quality work by proactively addressing potential delays through effective planning and coordination of manpower, materials, parts, and equipment access. Planned maintenance activities encompass preventive and predictive maintenance routines, scheduled repairs and rebuilds, installations, and general facilities maintenance. The role also involves maintaining the accuracy and completeness of data within the EAM system, including equipment master records, work orders, repair histories, preventive maintenance plans, and equipment bills of materials.

JOB ACTIVITIES / DUTIES
Responsibilities include:

  • Promoting and driving safety improvements across the planning team, maintenance team, and overall site.
  • Ensuring the overall success of the planning function through direct supervision.
  • Visiting job sites for new maintenance work orders to confirm the scope of work, developing preliminary estimates of labor and material requirements, and documenting these on the Planning Checklist.
  • Gathering necessary information for comprehensive job plans.
  • Identifying lockouts, tag-outs, and required permits.
  • Estimating labor hours needed for each task, both in rough and detailed formats as necessary.
  • Determining requirements for parts, materials, and special tools.
  • Providing cost estimates that account for labor, materials, and contracted services.
  • Initiating pick lists for parts and materials from the storeroom.
  • Issuing purchase requisitions for direct purchases of external parts and materials.
  • Compiling comprehensive "Job Packages" and communicating details to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Ensuring that all information vital to the planning process is thorough, accurate, and readily accessible.
  • Balancing work demands (man-hours needed) with available resources in the Weekly Schedule and Shutdown Schedule.
  • Identifying opportunities for “borrowed” manpower from other areas, as well as work that can be delegated to “helpers” or contractors.
  • Updating EAM files and backlogs to reflect completed work.
  • Enhancing equipment history files with data to improve future planning efforts.
  • Collaborating with other Planners to share common planning information.
  • Preparing preliminary schedules for Shutdown events and facilitating discussions during related meetings.
  • Publishing and distributing the final Shutdown Schedule prior to the event.
  • Coordinating manpower requirements for Shutdown activities.
  • Utilizing MS Project to create timeline charts for Shutdown events.
  • Gathering and presenting statistics for post-Shutdown Lessons Learned Meetings.
  • Serving as the site super user for maintenance systems and processes, training and mentoring Maintenance Technicians, Planners, and Operations on the EAM system.
  • Creating standardized work protocols for Planners for site and PCB-wide use.
  • Establishing recurring preventive maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) schedules onsite.
  • Generating site reports and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Participating in project meetings concerning requirements, maintainability, and equipment reviews.
  • Leading initiatives to enhance work management processes, including planning, BOM creation, and job planning.
  • Overseeing planning, scheduling, PM, and plant outage activities.
  • Maintaining a consistent workload across the planning team.
  • Coaching, mentoring, developing, and managing the performance of the planning team to continuously elevate skills and drive business results.
  • Mentoring individuals outside the Maintenance team on best practices, processes, roles, and responsibilities to foster improvements throughout the site.
  • Monitoring and optimizing processes, procedures, and equipment to minimize safety hazards, aiming for a record of zero lost-time accidents.
  • Recruiting, hiring, and developing onsite Planners.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education:

  • An Associate degree (or equivalent work experience) in a Technical or Manufacturing discipline is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Certification as a Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT) or a similar credential is preferred.

Experience:

  • Fundamental understanding of plant production and packaging processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • A minimum of seven years of engineering or maintenance experience in a food processing plant environment is preferred.
  • At least five years of experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), with familiarity in Infor EAM being highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Management principles, including Precision Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, Root Cause Failure Analysis, and Shutdown and contingency planning; a willingness to collaborate with maintenance disciplines is essential.
  • A minimum of six years’ experience in a Maintenance Planner role or similar capacity.
  • At least three years’ experience as a Maintenance Supervisor.
