Job description:
The primary responsibility of the Key Holder is to provide an exceptional customer experience, fostering creativity among our customers and establishing JOANN as their preferred destination. All team members contribute to sales growth through in-depth product knowledge, innovative merchandising, and precise transaction processing. The Key Holder will support the Store Management team in leading store team members, providing guidance through observation and coaching, while executing operational responsibilities, including but not limited to store opening and closing, ensuring compliance with store standards, and implementing strategies to boost business performance. This role will embody the core values of HEARTS, HANDS, MINDS, and INSPIRE.
Responsibilities & Competencies
HEARTS
- Greet every JOANN customer, employing the F.A.S.T. service model to effectively address their needs.
- Utilize open-ended questions to ascertain customers’ project requirements and guide them to the location of desired products.
- Engage customers in friendly discussions about their projects while assisting at the cutting counter, cash register, and on the sales floor.
HANDS
- Efficiently and courteously process customer transactions at both the cutting counter and cash register with professionalism and accuracy.
- Handle merchandise, including lifting boxes from the delivery area, organizing items on shelves, and managing freight unloading as per company procedures.
- Accurately stock shelves following the planogram while maintaining high productivity levels and meticulous attention to detail.
- Uphold cleanliness and organization on the sales floor by tidying shelves, managing returns, and promptly addressing spills or messes.
MINDS
- Encourage customer participation in store activities such as educational classes and custom framing events.
- Drive sales through comprehensive product knowledge, proactive selling techniques, and cultivating strong customer relationships with the JOANN brand.
- Assist management in minimizing shrink through adherence to policies and procedures, including accuracy at the cutting counter, inventory management, and handling of remnants and damages.
- Collaborate with store management to identify opportunities for business growth and increased profitability.
INSPIRE
- Partner with Store Management to recognize and delegate essential tasks to Team Members.
- Follow up to ensure assigned tasks are completed thoroughly and in a timely manner.
- May act as Manager on Duty (MOD) to open or close the store in the absence of management.
- Collaborate professionally with other team members or management on various projects.
Physical Demands
- Stand for the duration of the shift (excluding break time).
- Continuously walk throughout the store during the shift.
- Read written instructions, reports, and other materials on paper and computer screens.
- Communicate orally with customers and team members consistently throughout the shift.
- Input data on computer keyboards and handheld devices.
- Use two-way radios for communication.
- Push/pull merchandise using appropriate equipment (carts, bins, etc.) between the backroom and sales floor.
- Lift and arrange items on shelves and racks.
- Bend down and reach above head as necessary.
- Climb and descend ladders as required.
- Individually lift up to 49 pounds, with group lifts up to 97 pounds (frequently managing varying weights as defined in the initial description).
Expected Availability
Part-time roles require availability aligned with the needs of the store. Part-time Team Members typically work an average of less than 28 hours per week and are not guaranteed specific hours. Open availability encompasses the capability to work at any hour, including days, evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays. Scheduling is based on the store’s requirements and the team member’s availability. Career progression may entail relocation.
Full-time roles necessitate open availability with a commitment to an average of at least 36 hours per week over the course of a year. Eligibility for full-time benefits requires meeting these availability criteria, which include flexible scheduling across all hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Team Members fulfilling these obligations may receive full-time benefits as per the company’s program, with scheduling reflecting the demands of the store and individual availability. Education & Experience
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
