Job description:
Under general supervision, the Manager Trainee position is responsible for learning to manage a small driver count and/or non-traditional shifts (including nights and weekends). The role ensures the safe and timely movement of freight, load assignments, and the delivery of best-in-class customer service while being trained to uphold compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The individual will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to accurately plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight and loads.

Key Responsibilities:

– Develop and sustain positive professional relationships with drivers and reliable outside carriers to facilitate seamless new carrier setup, reduce turnover, and enhance ongoing productivity.
– Provide support in the absence of personnel and engage in special projects aimed at optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability.
– Acquire skills in personnel management, including the training and orientation of drivers and/or employees, as well as assistance with internal and third-party customer systems.
– Gain proficiency in maximizing the efficiency of fleet operations and profitability, making recommendations for continuous improvement, measuring key performance indicators, and generating customer-specific reports and financial analyses through face-to-face interactions at customer locations.
– Understand how to manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and the assignment of drivers to ensure balanced equipment usage in the market.
– Learn to execute administrative responsibilities such as payroll management, oversight of the Net-Revenue budget, driver counseling, accident reviews, and documentation, as well as resolving pay issues and analyzing Profit & Loss statements.
– Manage yard operations, including checking and inspecting equipment, replacing parts (such as mud flaps), coordinating repairs, and ensuring timely scheduling of preventative maintenance services for account equipment in alignment with safety protocols.
– Collaborate with drivers, customers, and company personnel to address service-related issues, routing and planning, mechanical problems, and accessorial pay inquiries as they arise, including on-call situations.
– Uphold the Company’s safety culture by delivering daily driver safety messages, conducting monthly safety briefings, quarterly driver training sessions, and annual reviews while enforcing company policies to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and safety requirements.
– Assign loads, plan, route, and monitor freight movement to deliver safe, on-time service that meets customer expectations, managing freight exceptions and driver ETA adjustments based on pickup and delivery schedules and environmental factors.

Minimum Qualifications:

– High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by up to four years of equivalent education, experience, and training; currently enrolled in a degree program or possess a Bachelor’s degree; ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends as necessary; willingness to travel to accounts, customer, and company events as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree plus one year of equivalent education, experience, and training.

Compensation for this role may be influenced by factors such as skills, education, experience, geographic location, and other qualifications of the selected candidate. Additionally, this role may qualify for annual bonuses and incentives aligned with the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable.
