Job description:
Under general supervision, this position is tasked with understanding the management of a small driver count and/or non-traditional shifts, which may include nights and weekends. The primary focus is on ensuring the safe and timely movement of freight, facilitating load assignments, and delivering best-in-class customer service. Training will be provided to ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The role entails overseeing driver compliance and adherence to company regulations while collaborating with both internal and external contacts to guarantee accurate planning, routing, monitoring, and delivery of freight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and nurture positive professional relationships with drivers and dependable outside carriers to enable seamless integration of new carriers, minimize turnover, and enhance ongoing productivity.
- Provide support by filling in for absent personnel and participating in special projects aimed at optimizing fleet operations and driving profitability.
- Acquire skills in personnel management, including the training and onboarding of drivers and/or employees, and assist with internal and third-party (customer) systems.
- Gain proficiency in enhancing fleet operations and profitability through recommendations for continuous improvement, measuring key performance indicators, and creating, maintaining, and presenting customer-specific reporting and financial analyses during face-to-face interactions at customer locations.
- Develop an understanding of inventory management, asset controls, customer pools, and the assignment of drivers to maintain balanced equipment in the marketplace.
- Perform administrative functions such as payroll processing, managing the Net-Revenue budget, counseling drivers, conducting accident reviews, documenting incidents, resolving pay discrepancies, and analyzing profit and loss statements, as well as invoicing or generating operational and financial reports.
- Manage yard activities, including equipment inspections, parts replacements, repairs, and coordinating with maintenance to ensure timely scheduling of regular preventative maintenance services and resolution of safety-related mechanical issues.
- Collaborate with drivers, customers, and company personnel to address service issues, routing and planning troubles, mechanical issues, and accessorial pay-related concerns as they arise throughout the day and, where necessary, when on call.
- Uphold the company’s commitment to safety culture, which includes delivering daily safety messages to drivers, conducting monthly safety briefings, overseeing quarterly training sessions, and enforcing company policies to ensure compliance with DOT and safety regulations.
- Assign loads and effectively plan, route, and monitor freight movement to ensure safe, on-time service that meets customer requirements, managing freight exceptions and driver ETA adjustments due to pick-up and delivery schedules and changing road conditions.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualification:
- A High School Diploma/GED supplemented by up to 4 years of equivalent education, experience, and training; or currently enrolled in a degree program with up to 2 years of equivalent education, experience, and training; or a Bachelor’s degree with the ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends as necessary. Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company event locations is essential.

Compensation:
