Job description:
This position, under general supervision, is designed to immerse trainees in the management of small driver counts and non-traditional shifts, including nights and weekends. The role emphasizes the safe and timely movement of freight, load assignments, and delivering exemplary customer service. Trainees will receive necessary training to ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, while being accountable for driver compliance and adherence to company policies. Collaboration with internal and external partners will be essential to accurately plan, route, monitor, and oversee freight deliveries and loads.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and sustain positive professional relationships with drivers and reliable outside carriers to facilitate seamless carrier onboarding, reduce turnover, and optimize productivity.
- Provide support by filling in for absent personnel and participating in special projects aimed at enhancing fleet operations and profitability.
- Acquire skills in personnel management, including the training and orientation of drivers and/or employees, as well as assistance with internal and third-party systems.
- Strive to enhance fleet operation efficiency and profitability by making recommendations for continuous improvement, monitoring key performance indicators, and preparing customer-specific reporting and financial analyses through on-site interactions.
- Gain expertise in managing inventory, assets, and customer pools, as well as assigning drivers to ensure balance in equipment allocation within the market.
- Perform essential administrative tasks such as payroll management, oversight of the Net-Revenue budget, driver counseling, accident reviews, documentation, issue resolution regarding payments, as well as analyzing profit and loss statements and generating operational or financial reports.
- Manage yard operations, including inspecting equipment, performing repairs (such as replacing mud flaps), and coordinating regular preventative maintenance services to address all safety-related mechanical issues promptly.
- Collaborate with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service issues, routing challenges, mechanical problems, and compensation-related inquiries, particularly when on call.
- Uphold the company’s safety culture by delivering daily safety messages to drivers, conducting monthly briefings, quarterly training, and annual reviews, while enforcing policies to ensure DOT compliance and adherence to safety requirements.
- Learn to assign loads and effectively plan, route, and monitor freight movement to ensure safe, timely service that meets customer specifications, adjusting for freight exceptions and driver estimated time of arrival based on various factors.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualification:
- High School Diploma/GED with up to 4 years of relevant education, experience, and training. Candidates should be currently enrolled in a degree program with up to 2 years or possess a Bachelor’s degree. Availability for multiple shifts, including nights and weekends, is essential. Willingness to travel for customer and company events is also required.
Preferred Qualification:
- A Bachelor’s degree supplemented by 1 year of relevant education, experience, and training.
