Job description:

The General Motors Manufacturing Group is actively seeking highly motivated and qualified individuals for current and future opportunities as a Group Leader. This position is categorized as onsite, and the successful candidate is expected to report to Flint Assembly on a full-time basis.

The Role:

As a Maintenance Group Leader, you will oversee a team of skilled employees responsible for troubleshooting and repairing complex equipment and processes. This role requires a thorough understanding of National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union. You will leverage independent judgment within the scope of Global Manufacturing Systems, with a strong emphasis on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE).

Selected candidates will have the opportunity to acquire new skills while contributing to the development of manufacturing processes that support GM’s transformative shift towards electric and autonomous vehicles.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Interpret and respond to the day’s manufacturing plan in real time.
  • Manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.
  • Effectively handle change and navigate ambiguity.
  • Foster accountability through people and processes, which may involve challenging discussions in a unionized setting.
  • Exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills and collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Utilize analytical skills to address complex problems.
  • Conduct relevant checks and tests, and communicate the evaluation of results.
  • Recommend solutions to identified issues.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions.
  • Ensure adherence to schedules and quality standards.
  • Comply with local and national labor agreements.
  • Implement divisional and corporate policies, including safety and housekeeping practices.
  • Maintain regular communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Optimize the use of personnel, materials, and equipment.
  • Develop actionable plans to complete jobs and projects.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and the ability to apply GMS principles.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • One year of direct team supervisory experience, or at least five months as an internal GM per diem group leader.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic blueprints.
  • Capability to coordinate, manage performance issues, and lead teams in fast-paced settings.
  • Experience in solving complex problems effectively in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with experience in managing conflict and making informed decisions amid uncertainty.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, typing, and email communication.
  • Availability to work weekends and rotating shifts.
