How will you make history here?

The Market Development Lead (MDL) is tasked with driving market growth through collaboration and engagement with Independent Distributor Partners (IDPs) and retail outlets. The MDL will establish and nurture cooperative relationships with IDPs, select retail store management, and key retail decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities:

IDP Engagement

  • Analyze and convey market conditions to IDPs, identifying growth opportunities and facilitating business meetings to support their development.
  • Synthesize and interpret data to inform IDPs on retailer-specific requirements, base business performance, and incremental growth opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with IDPs to resolve disputes and minimize conflict with retailers.
  • Serve as a key liaison among cross-functional partners, including Customer Teams, Warehouse Operations, and IDPs, ensuring service levels are met through product availability and customer strategies.
  • Conduct purposeful route consultations as requested by IDPs.
  • Perform periodic physical inventory assessments.

Retail Development

  • Drive local market execution by providing additional call coverage for retailer-specific promotional events.
  • Forecast and analyze market conditions to create growth plans in partnership with IDPs.
  • Visit key accounts and stores to identify strengths and opportunities while forging relationships with local retail decision-makers.
  • Respond to service-related issues raised by retailers within 24 hours, ensuring a positive resolution between IDPs and retailers.
  • Foster rapport and trust with key store management at various levels during visits and through ongoing communication.

Job Complexity / Scope:

  • Communicate effectively, demonstrating sophistication and nuance to a diverse array of internal and external cross-functional partners.
  • Leverage technology to facilitate informed business decisions.
  • Exhibit strong presentation skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in key Microsoft platforms (including Excel) and general technological aptitude (e.g., Microsoft Suite and sales-related software).
  • Collaborate with the Business Development Manager, Zone Sales Manager, Market Sales Lead, retailers, warehouse teams, and IDPs to proactively identify business constraints, opportunities, and needs.

What you bring to the table:

  • A minimum of three years of relevant sales or Consumer Packaged Goods experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and persuade.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong technical and analytical proficiency.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft software, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel is required as necessary, including both local and overnight trips.
  • Ability to relocate as required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be available to travel within the district, to company meetings, training sessions, and other regions as business needs dictate.

Physical Demands:
This role may require frequent standing, walking, and sitting. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary. Employees must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Regular driving to stores, warehouses, and hubs within the market is expected.
