Job description:

The Material Handler is tasked with the efficient movement of materials throughout the facility. This role includes responsibilities such as loading and unloading trailers, as well as the handling of raw materials, work in progress, and finished goods.

Shift: A Team – 5:50 AM – 6:00 PM, 2-2-3 – Building 17
Starting Hourly Rate: $21.58/hr

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The specific activities and duties may vary based on site needs. Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Transporting materials to and from raw, WIP, finished goods, shipping, receiving, and manufacturing areas.
  • Unloading/loading trucks and tankers with incoming and outgoing materials while verifying against shipping and receiving documents.
  • Executing appropriate transactions to document the movement of materials within the Inventory Management System.
  • Supporting inventory accuracy by conducting warehouse and departmental cycle counts and resolving discrepancies.
  • Assisting in the management of winding drum and rack inventories.
  • Picking up and transferring materials, racks, pallets, and other supplies to and from production areas as necessary in the raw/finishing warehouse.
  • Condensing warehouse space and upholding housekeeping standards.
  • Performing all tasks in a safe manner, adhering to standard procedures and practices; encouraging others to do the same and reporting any unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Engaging in continuous improvement of quality and productivity.
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy work environment.
  • Assisting in equipment maintenance activities as directed.
  • Communicating and coordinating information with appropriate departmental staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Leading recycling efforts for pallets, cardboard, and scrap materials.
  • Supporting all 5S housekeeping initiatives.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or a minimum of 3 years of relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • A strong commitment to safety as a core value; serving as a role model for peers and promoting adherence to safety policies and practices.
  • A focus on service and quality; effectively addressing issues and proactively identifying root causes while educating the team as necessary.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of prior material handling experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, mathematical aptitude, mechanical/technical skills, and logical problem-solving abilities.
  • Capacity to work independently, ensuring safety and timeliness.
  • Motivation towards enhancing productivity, safety, and quality improvements.
  • Experience in leading continuous improvement initiatives and familiarity with ELS Operating Principles is preferred.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Experience in a collaborative team environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Movement: May require the ability to stand or walk for up to 80% of the shift, with frequent pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and squatting approximately 50% of the time.
  • Lifting: May necessitate the ability to lift up to 50 pounds for up to 50% of the shift.
  • Environment: Comfort in working in environments with varying temperatures and humidity levels may be required.
