Job description:

A non-exempt medical office position responsible for delivering direct nursing care in a medical office environment under the supervision of a physician. This role will assist medical providers while ensuring a clean and safe atmosphere in accordance with the practice’s policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and promote the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.
  • Comply with the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Support the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable about compliance responsibilities as outlined in the Code of Conduct; adhere to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies affecting specific job functions; and promptly report compliance issues or concerns.
  • Assist in the assessment of patient needs and health plans by taking vital signs, obtaining patient history, compiling medication lists, assessing visual acuity, and determining the chief complaint. Evaluate patients’ physical and mental status.
  • Complete all required documentation in the patient’s medical record according to the practice’s charting policy.
  • Prepare medical equipment and support physicians during medical treatments, examinations, and procedures.
  • Administer prescribed oral medications as well as intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections. Perform venipunctures and both CLIA-Waived and non-CLIA Waived lab testing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for patients and visitors, which includes cleaning, sterilizing, and storing instruments according to practice policies. Stock examination rooms in preparation for daily operations and take inventory of medical and examination room supplies.
  • Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements to safeguard against exposure to blood, potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Coordinate specialized consultations and appointments for testing as ordered by physicians. Notify the relevant insurance personnel to pre-certify surgeries or tests that require insurance pre-certification.
  • Answer office phones, assist the front desk with appointment scheduling, and direct calls appropriately.
  • Aid in patient check-out and facilitate the referral processing and scheduling procedure.
  • Assist in other functions of the physician practice as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program or equivalent relevant work experience in lieu of formal education.

Certification:

  • Medical Assistant certification preferred (required in certain departments; applicants will have 90 days to obtain it). CPR/BLS certification is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of experience working in a physician’s office is highly preferred.
