Job description:

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist II to join our team in Cleveland, OH, working Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM within the Clinical Laboratory – Auto Chemistry Department. This position involves performing moderately to highly complex test procedures, necessitating the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility in specialty areas for which the individual is qualified by education, training, and experience.

The pay range for this role begins at $33.00 per hour, with salary offers based on a variety of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, when applicable, certifications. Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit proficiency in all testing areas and effectively troubleshoot relevant instruments and procedures within the department.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and completion of special projects as assigned.
  • Execute and report assigned analytical tests in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring compliance with quality control requirements.
  • Uphold laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, result reporting, and record maintenance of patient test results.
  • Ensure timely reporting of results, including critical or STAT results, to clients.
  • Monitor and record reagent/test kit dates, including receipt, expiration, and, if applicable, opened dates.
  • Conduct and document quality control analyses to guarantee accuracy in clinical data and proper operation of instruments, making informed quality control decisions.
  • Notify supervisory personnel regarding any issues affecting the performance of test procedures.
  • Report any deviations from standard testing procedures and fully cooperate in any ensuing investigations.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System to facilitate standardized reports for physician review and interpretation.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary state.
  • Complete relevant training and competency checklists as necessary.
  • May assist supervisory staff with the training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment and follow engineering and work practice controls as directed by management.
  • Respond to inquiries from clients or other laboratory personnel, as applicable.
  • Participate in regulatory agency inspections as needed.
  • Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor if qualified and designated.

Qualifications:

  • Required Work Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience or training (high complexity testing) in a clinical laboratory setting.

  • Preferred Work Experience: At least three (3) years of clinical experience, with the most recent year being within the current department.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry objects, with frequent lifting of 1 to 10 pounds, occasional lifting of 11 to 25 pounds, and seldom lifting of 36 to 50 pounds; objects over 50 pounds require assistance.
  • Capacity to stand and work at the laboratory bench for extended periods.
  • Frequent walking and/or standing may be required.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments, which necessitates significant manual dexterity.

Knowledge:
