The Metrology Equipment Technician position is responsible for maintaining metrology equipment, with a focus on enhancing instrument and asset uptime efficiency.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Act as the Technical Expert for the metrology systems utilized in qualifying polysilicon products for their intended applications.
  • Verify and ensure that preventive maintenance (PM) activities for metrology equipment are completed by their due dates.
  • Maintain a comprehensive spare parts inventory for metrology equipment.
  • Collaborate with vendors on service plans, scheduled PM visits, and urgent service calls.
  • Provide on-call support for metrology equipment issues.
  • Escalate matters to the Metrology team or vendor when subject matter expertise is required.
  • Track and document equipment status and downtime.
  • Ensure all metrology equipment is backed up to server or disc.
  • Collaborate with area operators to calibrate each piece of metrology equipment.
  • Develop and adjust PM protocols for each metrology apparatus.
  • Participate as part of a team in updating and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.

Additional Duties/Responsibilities:
QA Testing

  • Train fellow metrology technicians and S-23 Maintenance Technicians.
  • Oversee external calibration activities and coordinate efforts with other metrologists and maintenance personnel.
  • Serve as a certified Root Cause Investigation (RCI) practitioner.

Metrology Group Support

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding the operation of spectrophotometric instruments, including 7900s ICM-MS, DRC-ICP-MS, Floating Zone Systems, auto core etching, and EPI reactors.
  • Design, order, modify, and install new instruments and supporting equipment for enhanced QA tests, participating in test method development with fellow metrologists.
  • Leverage over 25 years of laboratory experience and 20 years of quality management expertise to enhance the Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) Program, including MSA improvement initiatives, testing schedules, and data analysis for lab rulers, micrometers, and balances.

Exemplar Global Certified Lead Quality Management System Auditor – IATF 16949:2016 & ISO 9001:2015

  • Serve as the lead auditor for the HSC Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS).
  • Support QA Testing and Metrology Group in third-party audits and preparatory efforts.
  • Drive Audit Program Improvements, engaging with development teams, training initiatives, and consulting with OMNEX specialists.

Project Engineering Support

  • Act as the S-23 SME for capital engineering projects, contributing knowledge for testing related to building projects, equipment utility requirements, and quality and hazardous waste handling considerations.
  • Review, mark, and approve P&ID document modifications.
  • Assess and sanction Cause and Effect Table (CET) revisions for the S-23 DCS800Xa system.

Skills:

  • Ability to independently prioritize work.
  • Establish and manage a daily work schedule based on urgency and available time.
  • Exercise judgment regarding overtime based on maintenance urgency, availability of backup equipment, and technician workload.
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment autonomously.
  • Evaluate instrument data for the effectiveness of calibrations and maintenance activities.
  • Mentor less experienced technicians, fostering their professional development.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately based on workload and capability of team members.
  • Identify and collaborate with suitable vendors for spare parts and service support, balancing cost, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Conduct independent research on new technologies to address emerging challenges.
  • Engage relevant SMEs and management as necessary.
  • Assess documented information for compliance with OEMS, ISO 9001, and IATF 16949 standards, implementing improvements in QA Testing and across departments, as well as utilizing EXP and MOC processes for effective change management.

Education Requirements:

  • An Associate’s degree is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Alternatively, 10 years of related laboratory experience may be considered.

Environment/Working Conditions:

  • The role predominantly involves indoor work (90%) in a lab environment, with limited outdoor activities (10%).

The salary range for this position is $61,280.00 – $84,260.00, depending on full-time status. The starting salary for the successful candidate will vary based on numerous job-related factors such as market demands, experience, training, and educational background.
