Based in northwest Michigan, Northern Building Supply (NBS) operates two full-service lumber yards and is recognized as the region’s premier supplier of premium building materials for both contractors and homeowners. In addition to high-quality lumber, NBS offers a diverse selection of specialty products, including windows, doors, cabinets, decking, and both interior and exterior trim.

Northern Building Supply, a division of US LBM, is seeking a Non-CDL Driver to join our team in Traverse City, MI.

Compensation: $20.00 to $22.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday to Friday, Day Shift

Position Overview:
The Non-CDL Driver is responsible for delivering materials to job sites, ensuring the inspection and maintenance of the truck, reporting shortages and claims to supervisors, and assisting with the loading and storage of materials. While this position does not require a CDL, certain certifications may be necessary depending on state law.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Operate the vehicle safely and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Verify order accuracy and secure loads appropriately.
  • Obtain necessary approvals from supervisors regarding load counts and conditions.
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly and clean yard and warehouse.
  • Deliver and unload materials to customers’ satisfaction.
  • Follow supervisor guidelines and complete daily equipment inspections.
  • Document merchandise returned by truck and complete relevant paperwork, such as delivery tickets and credit slips.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and assist in unloading returned materials for credit.
  • Relay messages from customers while on site and support supervisors and coworkers as needed.
  • Adhere to all company policies and participate in assigned training sessions.
  • Comply with DOT and FMCSA regulations as applicable.
  • Deliver raw materials to customers and perform other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience driving trucks, preferably with lumber dumping experience.
  • Proficient in basic mathematics, and capable of reading and completing orders and instructions.
  • Demonstrate effective and professional communication skills with customers, coworkers, and supervisors, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage conflict constructively and identify potential issues.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting techniques and ability to meet physical demands, including lifting 100 lbs or more repetitively.
  • Maintain a current operator’s license and meet company driving qualifications.
  • Familiarity with and ability to learn current technologies, such as smartphones and GPS applications.
