Job Summary
The Diving Supervisor for DC Cook will be primarily responsible for overseeing diving operations and ensuring safety protocols for both radiological and non-radiological dives. The ideal candidate should possess a solid background in commercial diving, comprehensive knowledge of plant systems and components related to diving operations, and strong project management capabilities.
Job Description
This position entails the supervision of mechanics, welders, electricians, instrument technicians, and a range of other personnel—both exempt and non-exempt—engaged in the maintenance of plant components, equipment, systems, structures, and facilities. The selected candidate will be tasked with ensuring that all personnel perform their duties safely, effectively, and with a commitment to quality. This first-line supervisory role encompasses oversight in the disciplines of Instrumentation and Control, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Welding, Mechanical, Electrical, and Building and Grounds Maintenance.
Essential Job Functions & Tasks:
- Direct and supervise the activities of assigned personnel to ensure safety, ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) practices, quality control, and productivity are prioritized in compliance with company safety policies and regulations.
- Prepare and manage all pertinent reports, records, and documentation as mandated by Technical Specifications, Plant Manager’s Instructions and Procedures, and the Plant Quality Assurance program.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement modifications to current and proposed plant components, systems, and structures to ensure configurations are based on cost-effective and reliable criteria.
- Maintain plant material conditions and housekeeping standards in accordance with established plant and departmental policies.
- Oversee corrective and preventive maintenance, as well as planned and forced outage work activities, surveillance, and necessary post-maintenance testing, in alignment with the Plant Integrated Schedule.
- Manage the maintenance, utilization, and care of all tools, test equipment, materials, and shop facilities under direct supervision.
- Implement and enforce all radiological control work practices and contamination control program requirements, including the identification and rectification of flaws in contamination control practices, while leveraging tracking and trending data to address recurring issues.
- Utilize the maintenance action request system and integrated schedule to ensure efficient identification, classification, planning, coordination, and scheduling of work to optimize plant resources.
- Ensure that contract and non-plant personnel are properly supervised and adhere to the same (or equivalent) plant approved policies, procedures, controls, and workmanship standards as plant maintenance personnel.
- Facilitate the training, qualification, and professional development of all assigned personnel.
Minimum Requirements:
Education/Experience:
- An Associate’s degree in electronics, electrical technology, mechanical technology, physical science, or equivalent US Navy nuclear experience at a rating of E-6 or above, alongside a minimum of six years of total experience; or
- A high school diploma/GED coupled with over ten years of total experience.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of eight years’ experience as a Senior Trade directly associated with the specific discipline supervised (e.g., Mechanic, Electrician, Welder, I&C Technician) or an equivalent mix of experience, education, and/or training as detailed in the education requirements.
Other Requirements:
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Proven leadership skills.
- A thorough understanding of nuclear standards and nuclear policies, practices, and procedures.
- The role requires physical demands including walk-downs in a plant environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, and radiation. The physical demand level is categorized as Sedentary.
- Preferred skills include experience with vendor contracts and bidding processes.
Candidates must establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe driving distance to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.
