HEALTH AND WELLNESS DEPARTMENT
NUTRITIONIST
As a Nutritionist within the Health and Wellness Department, you will be responsible for providing Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) services and conducting certification procedures in accordance with the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) WIC Division policies. Your duties will include performing WIC certifications and recertifications, delivering individualized nutrition education to WIC participants, and making referrals for high-risk participants to a Registered Dietitian. You will also connect participants with supportive health services and other relevant agencies as needed, engage in outreach activities, and maintain accurate WIC files as well as required program logs and reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computer systems, data entry, and relevant software programs.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills to effectively manage a large and complex caseload.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral forms.
  • Utilize data sources to interpret information and make informed recommendations for program improvement.
  • Conduct assigned chart audits/reports as designated by the team lead or program manager.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions.
  • Participate in collaborative workgroups aimed at addressing specific health issues.
  • Monitor and manage clinic supply orders.
  • Engage in Emergency Preparedness exercises as a requirement of this position.
  • Contribute to response efforts during public health emergencies, including undertaking duties that are not typically part of the role.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications (required):

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Community Nutrition; or a Dietetic Technician.
  • A Master’s Degree in nutrition, public health, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in dietetics, food science, food preparation, menu planning, and budgeting.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetics Registration.
  • At least one year of experience in WIC services.

Equivalency:
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered to meet the qualifications for this position.
