Occupational Health Nurse
Prineville, OR 97754
Pay Rate: $45/hr – $50/hr
Shift Timings: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

This role is integral to the coordination of all Corporate Health and Medical Services processes and activities. The Occupational Health Nurse will provide guidance on health-related issues for employees, supervisors, and facility leadership teams. This non-supervisory position is dedicated to delivering and managing occupational health and wellness services across our plants.

Key responsibilities include coordinating health initiatives for employees and contractors, collaborating with the local medical community when necessary, and engaging with a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders. The primary objective is to prevent and manage injuries and illnesses while promoting health, wellness, productivity, and safety within the facilities.

The Occupational Health Nurse will plan, implement, and manage health-related programs, provide first aid treatment, and handle case management for both work-related and non-work-related injuries and illnesses. The incumbent will lead successful wellness initiatives and track relevant metrics at the plants. Close cooperation with Disability Case Managers, Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjustors, Human Resources Professionals, and Environmental Health & Safety Leaders is essential.

Responsibilities include:

– Upholding safety protocols and adhering to all safety responsibilities.
– Implementing a personal safety action plan and reviewing it with leadership.
– Collaborating with medical providers to ensure quality treatment for employees with occupational illnesses or injuries.
– Partnering with plant leadership to foster a zero-injury culture.
– Leading the Wellness Pillar in alignment with our Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) journey and ensuring compliance with various policies and regulations.
– Scheduling and evaluating pre-placement medical surveillance, preventative care, health promotion, referrals, and fit-for-duty examinations.
– Providing nursing care to plant employees as needed and facilitating necessary referrals.
– Conducting annual audiometric testing, vision exams, pulmonary function exams, and fit testing to ensure quality care at competitive prices.
– Managing the clinical operations of the facility clinic and overseeing other occupational health clinics within the designated region.
– Collaborating with Disability Case Managers and Workers’ Compensation Adjustors to manage both occupational and non-occupational illness/injury cases, ensuring timely and appropriate returns to duty.
– Working closely with plant leadership, disability claims adjustors, and medical providers to control medical costs.

Job Requirements:

1. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred, though a three-year diploma or two-year associate degree is acceptable with RN licensure in the state(s) of practice, along with five years of occupational health experience.

2. Licenses and Certifications (Required):
– Licensed Registered Nurse
– Certified Occupational Health Nurse (or eligible and willing to take the exam)
– Current CAOHC audiometry certification
– Current NIOSH-approved spirometry training

Knowledge and Abilities:

– Familiarity with Occupational Health Nursing science, OSHA regulations, and other regulatory requirements.
– Understanding of State nurse practice acts, applicable pharmacy statutes, and ethical guidelines.
– Case Management Services expertise, utilizing clinical/nursing/case management skills to coordinate individualized employee treatment plans while optimizing cost containment.
– Ability to serve as an intermediary to interpret and educate employees regarding their disability and established treatment plans.
– Coordination of medical assessments with Physicians and Therapists to create comprehensive treatment plans that ensure cost containment and compliance with state and regulatory guidelines.
– Researching and assessing alternative treatment options and coordinating employee enrollment, while monitoring progress to minimize work absences.
– Collaboration with plant leaders, supervisors, union representatives, and safety personnel to identify and implement transitional or modified duties based on medical limitations and functional abilities.
– Participation in Work Transition meetings to assist employees in returning to work.
– Potential provision of expert testimony in litigated cases.
– Organization of employee appointments and arrangement of transportation as necessary.
– Coordination of vocational rehabilitation for employees unable to return to work, facilitating their reentry into the workplace.
