Job description:

The Michigan Black Business Alliance (MBBA) plays a pivotal role in empowering Black entrepreneurs through an array of programs and services, such as access to capital, mentorship, business education, and policy advocacy. Our organization fosters environments where Black businesses can grow and thrive, strategically positioning ourselves at influential events and leveraging our voice to advocate for systemic changes that support Black entrepreneurs. We firmly acknowledge the historical oppression and systemic policies that have contributed to the widening racial wealth gap.

The mission of MBBA is to bridge the racial wealth gap by developing programs and advocating for policies that cultivate profitable and sustainable Black-owned businesses, connecting them to public and private economic opportunities while fostering trusted relationships.

As the Operations Coordinator, you will be essential to fulfilling MBBA’s mission by providing seamless support for daily operational management. This role necessitates strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine passion for uplifting Black entrepreneurship. You will serve as a strategic partner to the finance and administrative teams, as well as the Membership Experience Coordinator, ensuring effective communication and coordination in pursuit of the organization’s goals.

Core Job Responsibilities:

Operations Support

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of operational policies and procedures that affect the organization and the BLK Biz Hub.
  • Maintain accurate records of events, stakeholders, member engagement, and financial transactions.
  • Support the management team with administrative tasks, including scheduling, communications, and data entry.
  • Assist with procurement processes for equipment, facilities, and events, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of resources and services to support organizational initiatives.
  • Manage maintenance and supply ordering schedules, ensuring all items are functional and stocked to meet operational needs consistently.
  • Maintain organizational licenses, memberships, and registrations.
  • Oversee inventory management for the organization.

The BLK Biz Hub

  • Handle incoming MBBA phone calls, directing inquiries appropriately.
  • Maintain and update the BLK Biz Hub Events Calendar.
  • Coordinate member scheduling of resource rooms.
  • Manage event space rentals, including all logistics and coordination.
  • Oversee workspace residency agreements and ensure compliance.
  • Plan and coordinate art installations with contractors.
  • Maintain the Hub’s technology infrastructure, including Wi-Fi, printers, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Ensure the physical space of the Hub is optimal for member comfort and functionality.
  • Maintain accurate records of member information and Hub usage.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Manage inventory of Hub supplies, furnishings, and equipment.

Budget Management

  • Assist in budget planning and tracking.
  • Collaborate with operations, finance, and program teams to explore cost-effective solutions that maximize budget effectiveness.

Reporting

  • Ensure that all documents and tools used for data collection are updated according to current requirements.
  • Prepare reports on event outcomes, attendance, and member engagement for leadership review and grant reporting.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for operational and event planning improvements.
  • Compile and submit regular reports on Hub activities and performance.

Qualifications and Abilities

  • Experience: Associates degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred, with a minimum of two (2) years of operational support experience.
  • Mission Alignment: A strong passion for MBBA’s mission of closing the racial wealth gap and empowering Black businesses.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, with a clear understanding of the unique challenges faced by entrepreneurs and Black-owned businesses.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in customer relationship and event management software.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with the Executive team, member businesses, and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Vision Alignment: Strong alignment with MBBA’s values of transparency, integrity, and prioritizing stakeholder needs.
  • Results Driven: Demonstrated success in driving operational efficiency and executing successful events.

Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $50,000 – $60,000 per year

Hiring Process:

    • In-Person Interview with CFO and Director of Operations
