Job description:
Gannett Publishing Services, located in Pontiac, Michigan, is seeking a part-time Operations Coordinator for our Newspaper Distribution Centers, with a commitment of up to 29 hours per week. This role involves providing comprehensive support for the distribution center, encompassing a variety of tasks related to home delivery, including the distribution of newspapers. Candidates must demonstrate flexibility in their availability, as the position may require working on varied days and hours, including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the distribution and handling of daily and non-daily products to carriers, haulers, retailers, and consumers.
- Load and unload trucks containing various print publications.
- Prepare the Distribution Center for the arrival of independent contractors by printing, preparing, and distributing necessary reports and paperwork.
- Utilize industry-specific software to manage required reporting for the center.
- Maintain overall cleanliness and organization of the distribution center.
- Complete essential documentation and reports for the center as required.
- Assist with the delivery of newspapers.
- Address and resolve subscriber service issues effectively.
- Maintain and repair news racks within the designated distribution area.
- Provide assistance in training Product Handlers and Product Coordinators as needed.
Requirements:
Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, a satisfactory motor vehicle record, a dependable automobile, and liability insurance. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential for thriving in a fast-paced environment. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and effective time management abilities are required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Candidates must be able to push and pull carts loaded with newspapers weighing up to 500 pounds with assistance and repetitively lift newspaper bundles weighing up to 25 pounds.
Education:
A GED or High School Diploma is required.
Related Experience:
Previous experience in newspaper distribution or warehouse operations is preferred.
