The Farmington Hills, MI site, established in 2005, boasts a 50,000 square foot facility and employs approximately 150 dedicated team members. Our focus is primarily on plasma spray coating (HA, TPS) for orthopedic implants, specifically in the spine and large joints, which are designed to promote a longer, more active life. Position Overview
The Operations Technician, Blasting, is responsible for inspecting incoming products, approving or rejecting them as necessary, and preparing items for the coating process by applying protective tape and performing surface blasting. This role demands hands-on craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Successfully complete all required training programs.
- Safely transport products using hand trucks, pallet jacks, carts, and tables.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, tools, and equipment.
- Identify and report any faulty equipment, defective materials, or unusual conditions to the department Supervisor or Lead.
- Adhere to designated safety protocols and regulations.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives.
- Conduct dimensional inspections using appropriate tools such as calipers, comparators, pin gauges, and measuring instruments as necessary.
- Perform weekly housekeeping tasks in accordance with the 5S schedule.
- Follow work orders to execute operations on a variety of parts and products.
- Reinforce safety expectations and ensure safe operating practices are maintained, reporting any issues or concerns to the Supervisor.
- Support quality and compliance by strictly adhering to all procedures, work instructions, and forms as outlined in the Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Employ fine motor skills and keen eyesight to inspect incoming products, apply protective tape, conduct blasting, and prepare products for the coating operation. Following coating, the technician will unmask and conduct a final inspection of the products before sending them to the Final Inspection area.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience Qualifications
- Previous work experience not required, but manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Experience in an FDA regulatory environment is a plus.
Knowledge and Skills for Success
- Proficient in time management and the use of quality inspection metrology tools.
- Familiarity with standard operating procedures and basic knowledge of quality management and mathematical ability.
- Experience in manufacturing safety practices.
- Understanding active learning principles and effective information capture techniques.
- Exceptional hand dexterity and basic knowledge in data entry, communication, and blueprint reading.
- Strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail, alongside proven problem-solving abilities.
Physical Demands
- Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
- Occasional movement throughout the building and operation of equipment.
- Capacity to maneuver under, around, or over equipment as necessary.
- Frequent communication and exchange of information with colleagues.
