The Farmington Hills, MI location, established in 2005, spans 50,000 square feet and is home to approximately 150 team members. Our primary focus is on plasma spray coating (HA, TPS) for orthopedic implants in the spine and large joints, facilitating longer, more active lives. Position Overview
The Operations Technician, Blasting, plays a crucial role in the inspection and preparation of products for the coating process. Responsibilities include evaluating incoming products, determining their suitability for processing, applying protective materials, executing blasting operations, and ensuring meticulous re-taping prior to the coating stage. This position demands a high level of craftsmanship and precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete all required training programs.
- Utilize hand trucks, pallet jacks, carts, and tables to transport products safely.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tools and equipment.
- Identify and report any faulty equipment, defective materials, or unusual conditions to the department Supervisor or Lead.
- Adhere to established safety guidelines and regulations.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives.
- Conduct dimensional inspections of products using tools such as calipers, comparators, pin gauges, and measuring instruments.
- Perform weekly housekeeping tasks per the 5S schedule.
- Follow specific work orders to complete operations on various components.
- Reinforce and model safety practices, promptly reporting any issues or concerns to the Supervisor.
- Maintain quality and compliance by following all procedures and instructions as outlined in the Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Employ fine motor skills and keen eyesight to inspect products, apply protective tape as specified by customer requirements, and manage the blasting and re-taping processes.
- Conduct a final inspection of products after the coating operation before forwarding them to the Final Inspection area.
Education Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Experience Qualifications
- Previous work experience is not mandatory, but manufacturing experience and familiarity with FDA regulatory environments are preferred.
Knowledge and Skills for Success
- Proficient time management.
- Experience with quality inspection metrology tools.
- Familiarity with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
