Job description:
The OTA Quality Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful integration, troubleshooting, data analysis, and systems execution of Over-the-Air Performance across the enterprise. This position is essential for achieving first-time quality and efficient issue resolution while facilitating the technical deployment of various OTA software features and functions within the portfolio of VIP and SDV platforms.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work closely with both internal departments and external partners to seamlessly integrate OTA as part of a comprehensive Software Solution. Collaboration across cross-functional teams will involve strategic and tactical interactions with CIEs/PLSIEs, Software Integration, OTA Deployment, Vehicle Teams, Software Quality, OTA Microprocessors, Component & Subsystem Development, ECU Hardware, and more.
This position is classified as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report onsite at the Milford Proving Ground – Bldg 22 & 23 for at least three times per week, or as dictated by business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
– Serve as the OTA Quality, Performance, and Triage Engineer across all vehicle programs.
– Facilitate the performance of OTA Programming, including early development, issue resolution, test fleet triage, and other critical OTA technical leadership activities throughout the organization.
– Assist in the technical resolution and troubleshooting of issues arising from OTA CTFs, Fleet Triage, development vehicles, vehicle plants, and the entire car park.
– Collaborate with ECU DREs, software VESCOM Verification program teams, OTA Deployment Operations, and the OTA Subsystem/Component organization to ensure clarity in issues as they relate to requirements, CGs, and test cases.
– Support the triage, root cause analysis, and resolution of OTA performance issues related to vehicle software, OTA Engine (CGM, TCP, VCU), back office, parts authoring, connectivity, and any concerns regarding OTA performance or quality.
– Work closely with Vehicle Update Services – VUS Software Integration (CGM, TCP, VCU) and other ECU teams (ACP, EBCM, etc.) to achieve optimal OTA Performance.
– Act as a member of the OTA Problem Resolution triage team, engaging in activities that support issue identification, support, and resolution, including CGM/CAN log analysis and vehicle data acquisition.
– Collaborate with Development Teams, OTA Deployment Operations, 12V Parasitic, brand quality managers, field service engineers, and OTA customer service engineers to identify and resolve issues stemming from OTA Programming and Performance.
– Drive the implementation and utilization of OTA Component Tester Tools, OTA on system benches, CVF Benches, CTF Fleets, Development Vehicles, and Vehicle Automation.
Minimum Required Skills and Experience:
– A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
– A minimum of 2 years of experience in software development, quality assurance, integration, triage, or program management.
– Willingness to travel as necessary (10-20%) between GM facilities (MPG and Warren), including vehicle plants.
– Strong project management and troubleshooting capabilities, complemented by effective interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaboration, and team building.
– Proven ability to assess situations to prioritize importance, urgency, and risks, making timely decisions that serve the best interests of the organization.
