Objective: The Packaging Production Scheduler/Planner in Grand Rapids, Michigan, will serve as a critical point of communication between business units and supplier partners, enhancing performance metrics and fostering strong supplier relationships while aligning with the company’s quality standards.
Minimum Requirements: Qualified candidates should possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related field
- Experience in production scheduling or material planning within a manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems
- Strong proficiency with computer applications (Windows, Outlook, Excel)
- Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse groups
- Proven ability to drive projects to completion
- Capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- High level of self-motivation
- A strong track record of reliable attendance and work performance
Desired Requirements: Outstanding candidates will ideally have:
- Prior experience in production scheduling or material planning within a metal stamping context
- Familiarity with Kanban systems
- Knowledge of quality processes such as Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
- Experience in lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement methodologies, and problem-solving frameworks (8D, 5 Whys)
Essential Functions:
Production/Manufacturing:
- Act as the primary point of contact for all packaging-related matters for Pridgeon and Clay.
- Take ownership of the product life cycle to ensure on-time shipping to customers.
- Establish and enforce minimum order quantities.
- Manage product to coil for customer requests, ensuring appropriate payments for low-volume requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and update work-in-progress (WIP) container inventory processes.
- Create and update internal operator packaging instructions and routing procedures as needed.
- Identify alternative packaging options when returnable packaging is not available.
- Design and develop packaging solutions that meet ergonomic, quality, cost, and customer specifications.
- Collaborate with Process Engineers, Quality Engineers, and Launch Teams to determine optimal packaging solutions for new product introductions.
- Obtain and follow up on procurement related to packaging, including quotations and testing, based on customer needs, production processes, logistics, and quality standards.
- Identify and implement improvements to existing packaging solutions in conjunction with engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Schedule the Packline to fulfill customer requirements and ensure timely delivery.
- Release materials/components as necessary against blanket orders to uphold inventory and scheduling targets, aiming for a 99% on-time delivery rate.
Customer Service:
- Communicate effectively with customer service teams to prioritize production schedules in response to customer demands.
- Recommend adjustments to staffing and overtime as needed to meet customer requirements.
