Job description:
Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for the planning and execution of special grounds and maintenance projects. This role involves assisting in the coordination of activities for a large team engaged in park maintenance across a city-wide area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but is not limited to):
– Coordinate district grounds maintenance activities for a large team involved in both routine and special projects.
– Conduct field surveys and inspections, providing advisory support to supervisors and resolving administrative, operational, and public relations issues that arise.
– Oversee inspections of ongoing projects to ensure compliance with plans and provide guidance to district supervisors regarding any special concerns.
– Facilitate the assignment or transfer of personnel, materials, and equipment across districts to ensure the successful completion of special initiatives.
– Prepare work schedules and cost estimates for upcoming projects.
– Evaluate and report on the performance of materials, equipment, and personnel involved in maintenance activities.
– Ensure compliance with safety regulations regarding the application of pesticides.
– Develop and implement policies and standardized procedures for maintenance operations.
– Collaborate with divisional staff on plan preparation and recommend necessary changes or revisions.
– Organize equipment arrangements and assign drivers and maintenance personnel for city-wide special recreation events.
– Recommend the purchase of new types of maintenance equipment and prepare specifications for required materials and supplies.
– Oversee and assist in the development of in-service training programs for grounds maintenance staff.
– Test and evaluate new materials and procedures; after approval, oversee implementation on a city-wide basis.
– Contribute to budget preparation related to grounds maintenance activities.
– Compile special reports detailing work activities, along with the distribution of personnel and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school graduation or G.E.D.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of experience in grounds care and maintenance, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
Certifications: A valid State of Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicators Certification (Category 6) is required. A valid State of Michigan Operator License is also necessary. Candidates for this classification may be subject to a criminal background investigation based on role requirements.
