Job description:

The Chesterfield Township Parks, Recreation & Senior Services Department is seeking applications for a part-time Community Center Assistant to primarily support operations at the Chesterfield Township Community Center. This year-round position is focused on welcoming guests, handling front-line registration, assisting visitors, and processing payments from registrants.

Job Type: Part-time, year-round – Maximum of 29 hours per week / Non-Union, No Benefits
Schedule: Availability for flexible day, evening, and weekend hours required
Pay Rate: $13.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service at the front desk by welcoming guests, processing registration paperwork, collecting payments, answering inquiries, and directing visitors.
  • Utilize recreational program software efficiently.
  • Oversee registration processes and manage collected funds.
  • Set up and manage activity rooms as necessary.
  • Perform light cleaning of equipment and facilities.
  • Stay informed about departmental updates and programming offerings.
  • Complete various clerical tasks as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Must be available for flexible day, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Minimum age of 16 years.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan Driver’s License and reliable transportation or access to transportation to and from the work site.

Physical Abilities & Work Environment:

  • This position operates in an office environment, with regular use of a computer, telephone, copy machine, and filing cabinet. The noise level is typical for an office setting with frequent public interaction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with community center guests and fellow Parks, Recreation, & Senior Services staff to ensure clear understanding.
  • Regularly required to file, search for, and retrieve records, documentation, and items for residents and patrons.
  • Occasional ability to lift and/or move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for approximately 50% of the workday.
  • Frequently required to move about the facility, approximately 50% of the workday.
  • Ability to perceive depth, color, and detailed measurements.
