SUMMARY
The Sales Associate’s primary responsibilities include delivering exceptional customer service, driving sales, merchandising products, overseeing assigned departments, and supporting the store management team. The successful candidate will embody Great Lakes Ace Hardware’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values, striving to uphold these principles daily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as necessary):

  • Greet all customers, assisting them with inquiries regarding merchandise and helping locate products; utilize The S.A.L.E.S. process to ensure customers find all items on their lists.
  • Accurately complete all company and departmental paperwork, including Price Change Bulletins, Operation Actions, Red Tags, and Bin Tags.
  • Receive, open, and unpack merchandise cartons or crates, verifying paperwork against received items as required, and replenish stock as necessary.
  • Display and maintain merchandise on end caps, shelves, counters, or tables in accordance with company planograms, creating displays to enhance customer attraction and sales within defined guidelines provided by management.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy through adjustment reports, including cycle counts and on-hand discrepancies, and follow the nightly maintenance checklist to maintain store recovery and cleanliness.
  • Stay well-informed about new products and promotional merchandise.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings, customers, and potential loss prevention issues, practicing techniques to minimize shoplifting losses.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with store operational tools, including but not limited to RF Gun, Back Office Procedures, and Store Opportunities.
  • Adhere to GLA policies and procedures for all transactions; engage customers to ensure they are benefiting from Ace Rewards membership and encourage participation.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with both colleagues and customers.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist customers with color matching and mixing paint.
  • Provide recommendations and assistance in service areas such as chain and rope cutting, key and glass cutting, screen repair, and knife sharpening.
  • Operate the cash register by scanning merchandise, employing suggestive selling techniques, ensuring accurate transaction processing, and expressing gratitude to customers for their patronage.
  • Comply with all company policies.
  • Participate in periodic team meetings.
  • Maintain a consistent pattern of regular and timely attendance, with the ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends.

RELATIONSHIPS
Engage with all members of store management, store supervisors, associates, and Support Center personnel as needed to maintain exceptional customer satisfaction.

TECHNOLOGY
Utilize a variety of technology tools, including computers, keyboards, mice, RF Gun, Google Drive, AceNet, Epicor (point of sale system), and email.

QUALIFICATIONS
To successfully perform this role, candidates must be capable of fulfilling each essential duty satisfactorily. The following are the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Preferred candidates should have six months of related experience and/or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Proficient in reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and communicate effectively with customers and associates.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to execute instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form; capable of addressing problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
