Job description:
The Production Technician is integral to our manufacturing process, responsible for operating machinery and equipment to produce particle board products. This position demands meticulous attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a steadfast commitment to maintaining safety and quality standards.
New employees will be required to:
- Operate a forklift for the handling of particle board bunks.
- Bunks may range from 8 to 12 feet in length and approximately 3 feet in height.
- The technician will maneuver up to 2 bunks simultaneously and may stack up to 7 bunks.
- Forklift operation could be required continuously throughout a 12-hour shift.
- Utilize a computer to monitor production processes and maintain communication with team members via Microsoft applications.
The work follows a rotating schedule consisting of 12-hour shifts, with varying workdays each week, structured as follows: 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, and 3 days off. Employees will alternate between shifts from 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM every two weeks.
Position Responsibilities include:
- Machine Operation: Skillfully operate machinery utilized in particle board production, including chippers, dryers, presses, and sanders, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Quality Control: Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to quality standards, focusing on size, thickness, density, and surface finish of products.
- Material Handling: Assist in the transportation and handling of raw materials, such as wood chips and resins, to facilitate production.
- Setup and Adjustment: Support the setup and adjustment of machines for different production runs, ensuring that all settings and specifications are correctly implemented.
- Maintenance Support: Conduct routine maintenance on production equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts to optimize performance.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions or production challenges, collaborating with maintenance teams to deliver effective solutions and minimize downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols consistently, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participation in safety training programs.
- Documentation: Maintain precise production records, encompassing production logs, quality inspection reports, and equipment maintenance documentation.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with fellow production team members to coordinate workflow and enhance operational efficiency.
Safety Requirements entail:
- Prioritizing safety and demonstrating responsible working behaviors, serving as a model for proper PPE usage, including hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes, and other required equipment.
- Actively engaging in the understanding and application of all mandated safety policies and procedures.
- Maintaining housekeeping responsibilities and compliance with assigned lockout certifications.
- Participating positively in the safety program and reporting all safety incidents (including near misses).
- Completing documented assessments for any upsets or procedural deviations.

Physical Requirements include:
- Capacity to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to climb and work at heights as necessary, including the use of mobile ladders and aerial platforms.
- Competence in bending, squatting, and twisting as required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfort working in varying temperature environments, both hot and cold.
- Capability to navigate a large manufacturing setting with multiple buildings.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 1 year of forklift experience is advantageous.
- Proficient verbal and email communication skills.
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Post-offer, candidates must successfully pass a drug screen, background check, and physical capability assessment.
