Job description:
The Pastoral Assistant position at St. John XXIII Catholic Parish, part of the Archdiocese of Detroit and the Mother of Divine Love Family of Parishes, is designed to support the Pastor in four key areas: Coordination of Pastoral Care, Liturgy, Evangelization, and daily office operations. This role entails the coordination and facilitation of various programs, projects, and activities within these areas, either through direct involvement or by providing leadership, advice, and assistance as needed. The primary objective of the Pastoral Assistant is to empower volunteers, promote active participation, encourage the development of individual gifts, and offer skills training and support.
The Pastoral Assistant will collaborate closely with the Pastor and work alongside the Mission Support Director and other parish team members and committees to advance the mission of the parish while fostering discipleship among parishioners.
General Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Pastor and Parish Family Support staff in the overall pastoral ministry.
- Encourage and cultivate the faith life of the parish community.
- Maintain an organized parish office environment.
- Act as a director or coordinator for various parish ministries and programs.
- Participate in the training, formation, and supervision of volunteers.
- Oversee the coordination of parish gatherings, liturgies, social events, and projects.
- Engage in outreach efforts to recruit and integrate new members into the parish community, promoting evangelization and renewal.
1. Ministry of Worship/Spiritual Life:
- Develop and facilitate the Parish Liturgy Committee to plan Sunday and seasonal liturgies.
- Collaborate with the Parish Music Coordinators to plan music for liturgical services.
- Create training resources for parish liturgical ministries.
- Assist in planning sacramental preparation programs and parish sacramental services as needed.
2. Ministry of Pastoral Care:
- Help develop and coordinate services and programs that support parish growth, including initiatives targeting families and community engagement through activities like live reenactments and programs tailored for various demographics.
3. Evangelization and Outreach:
- Serve as a liaison to inspire and invite the community to know Jesus, reaching out to local neighborhoods, schools, and organizations.
- Exemplify a joyful attitude that attracts others to participate in outreach initiatives alongside the Pastor.
- Manage social media updates to engage, inform, and educate the parish community.
4. Office Duties:
- Manage front desk inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Create and distribute weekly email communications to parishioners and the broader community.
- Coordinate information for the weekly parish bulletin and manage supply orders with the Mission Support Director.
Other Duties:
- Work collaboratively with volunteers to achieve parish ministry goals.
- Serve as a resource for the Parish Pastoral Council and various parish groups.
- Assist the Pastor in welcoming and integrating newcomers into the parish.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding parish business and members’ personal information.
- Arrange for substitute priests during absences or emergencies.
- Collaborate with the family of parishes on discipleship formation initiatives.
- Assist visiting priests with their liturgical and travel requirements.
Job Scope:
The Pastoral Assistant will encounter diverse situations regularly, necessitating the ability to connect with individuals from various backgrounds and coordinate multiple activities with minimal supervision.
Communication & Contact:
