Job description:

Under the direction of the Patient Access Registration Front Line leadership team, the Patient Access Registrar plays a crucial role in facilitating a seamless and timely registration and admission process.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently and accurately performs registration and financial tasks using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, which includes employing thorough interviewing techniques and registering patients in the appropriate status. Adheres to registration protocols to ensure accurate and timely documentation of demographic and financial information, while obtaining and scanning necessary forms into the medical record according to departmental guidelines.
    • Warmly welcomes customers with prompt and friendly service.
    • Collects, documents, and scans all required demographic and financial data.
    • Guides patients to the appropriate settings, providing explanations and addressing any delays with courtesy.
    • Maintains professionalism and diplomacy at all times, abiding by established standards outlined in the department’s professionalism policy.
    • Accurately estimates and collects copayments, deductibles, and any other financial obligations from patients.
    • Adheres to compliance guidelines as specified in the Hospital and Department Compliance Plans, consistent with Meaningful Use requirements.
  • Implements recurring visit processing in accordance with established protocols.
  • May facilitate the use of electronic registration tools when available (e.g., Wacom tablets, iPads).
    • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • A minimum of one year of experience in a customer service role or within the healthcare industry.
  • Preferred:
    • Familiarity with Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, Cerner, EPIC, or other EMR systems, as well as Electronic Eligibility Systems and relevant third-party payer websites for verification purposes.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology.
