Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Pharmacy Consultant to provide exceptional pharmacy consulting services to patients, focusing on the safe and effective use of medications, as well as drug interaction awareness. This role encompasses the delivery of preventive and clinical health services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome assessments. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that prescribed medications are accurately compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified in accordance with regulatory guidelines and company policies. Additionally, the Pharmacy Consultant will manage an efficient pharmacy workflow, optimize financial performance, effectively manage inventory, and enhance the overall patient experience. The role also includes overseeing pharmacy staff performance and engagement, ensuring their professional development through targeted training and performance management initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

Patient Experience

  • Greet and engage patients, offering assistance with products and services while addressing any issues promptly to ensure a positive experience.
  • Model and share best practices in customer service with team members, fostering an environment of care and compassion, exemplified through interpersonal behaviors and Walgreens service traits.
  • Anticipate patient needs by proactively offering services and leading initiatives to increase awareness of healthcare services offered by Walgreens, thereby shifting the pharmacy’s role from transactional to interpersonal interactions.
  • Participate in community events that reflect the unique demographics served by our location, at the request of the Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, or District Manager.

Operations

  • Provide counseling to patients regarding medication usage, potential side effects, interactions, contraindications, and pricing options, while referring to medical providers as necessary to ensure optimal health outcomes.
  • Perform pharmacist duties such as compounding, conducting drug therapy reviews, verifying prescriptions, and managing medication distribution.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and company standards, establishing protocols to enhance pharmacy workflow, including staff scheduling and role assignments.
  • Uphold the elements of Good Faith Dispensing, adhering to all state and federal controlled substance regulations during the prescription filling process.
  • Collaborate with the Store Manager to identify and pursue new strategic business opportunities.
  • Maintain proficiency in pharmacy information technology systems, providing support to staff and patients while identifying opportunities for productivity improvements.
  • Process insurance claims accurately to mitigate payment rejections and work collaboratively with insurers and medical providers to resolve patient issues.
  • Communicate with medical providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, and potential interactions while performing various healthcare services.
  • Participate in clinical and wellness initiatives, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease management, and other health services.
  • Coordinate with centralized support for patient registration and assistance in resolving patient-related issues.
  • Manage pharmacy maintenance and housekeeping to ensure a clean, efficient, and organized workspace.
  • Prepare and submit all required documentation for regulatory compliance and operational reporting.

People & Performance Management

  • Collaborate with the Store Manager in the hiring and disciplinary processes for pharmacy staff, ensuring compliance with employment laws.
  • Establish clear expectations and goals for the pharmacy team, fostering collaboration and a cohesive vision. Recognize staff improvements through rewards programs and manage performance through regular training and performance reviews.
  • Identify and mentor high-potential team members in their career progression.
  • Address employee relations concerns and monitor team morale by fostering open communication and resolving conflicts.

Training & Professional Development

  • Maintain all necessary licenses, credentials, and certifications as mandated by federal and state regulations for clinical service provision.
  • Stay informed of developments in pharmacy and healthcare through ongoing education, including relevant journals and company communications.
  • Complete required training modules and education credits as necessary.
  • Seek out opportunities for professional growth through self-assessment, soliciting feedback, and leveraging mentorship from supervisors.

Communications

  • Support the Store Manager by disseminating relevant corporate health and wellness service information to pharmacy staff.

Business Performance Management

  • Analyze performance metrics, including pharmacy financials, customer service levels, and inventory management. Manage asset protection activities and identify opportunities for performance enhancement.

Business Planning

  • Foster strong relationships with local healthcare providers and the community to enhance pharmacy business growth and health awareness initiatives.

External Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution.
  • Current pharmacist license in the applicable district states.
  • Certified Immunizer or willingness to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum of one year of pharmacy experience, including knowledge of prescription filling, legal compliance, and pharmacy operations (specific requirements may vary by state).
