Job description:
Provides compassionate pharmacy consulting services to patients, focusing on the effective use of medications and awareness of potential drug interactions. Delivers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures that prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified with precision in compliance with regulatory guidelines and company policies.
Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow to enhance operational performance, boost financial outcomes, and improve the patient experience. Oversees pharmacy staff performance and promotes their engagement, supporting their professional development through training, tailored coaching, and structured performance management initiatives.
Patient Experience
– Effectively engages patients by warmly greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues promptly, ensuring a positive overall experience.
– Demonstrates and shares best practices in customer service with team members to create a distinctive and enjoyable patient experience, including demonstrating care through eye contact, courtesy, and proactive service.
– Anticipates patient needs and proactively offers relevant services. Leads initiatives that heighten awareness of healthcare services available at Walgreens, thereby enhancing the pharmacy’s role from purely transactional to deeply interpersonal.
– Participates in community events that reflect the unique characteristics of the communities served, as requested by the Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, or District Manager.
Operations
– Provides counsel to patients regarding medication usage, potential side effects, interactions, contraindications, patient privacy, generics, and over-the-counter products. Refers patients to medical providers when necessary to ensure accurate medication administration and address health needs.
– Executes pharmacist duties such as compounding medications, conducting drug therapy reviews, verifying prescriptions, and managing medication regimens.

– Engages medical providers to clarify medication prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies, and to suggest alternative treatments as needed.
– Provides clinical and wellness services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease state management, and other healthcare offerings.
– Partners with centralized support for patient registration and issue resolution, and conducts virtual product reviews in adherence to company guidelines when in virtual settings.
– Manages the pharmacy department’s maintenance and organizational aspects, including repairs, cleanliness, new equipment, and layout improvements to ensure an efficient and presentable pharmacy.
– Prepares and submits all necessary documentation and reports as mandated by state and federal regulations.
People & Performance Management
– Collaborates with the Store Manager on pharmacy staff recruitment and addresses performance issues, including disciplinary actions and terminations, ensuring compliance with employment laws.
– Partners with the Store Manager to establish clear expectations and goals, encourage teamwork, and foster a shared vision. Recognizes and rewards improvements in pharmacy staff performance.
– Identifies high-potential team members and works closely with the Store Manager to facilitate their career development.
– Addresses employee relations concerns to maintain team morale, actively checking on employee welfare and resolving conflicts.
Training & Personal Development
– Maintains necessary licensing, credentialing, and certifications in accordance with federal and state regulations to provide clinical services.

– Completes required training and educational credits as mandated by the company.
– Pursues professional development by self-assessing performance, seeking constructive feedback, and utilizing the Healthcare Supervisor and Store Manager as mentors and coaches.
Communications
– Assists the Store Manager by conveying relevant corporate health and wellness strategies or updates to pharmacy staff.
Business Performance Management
– Analyzes key performance metrics, including pharmacy financials, customer service, and inventory management. Oversees asset protection activities and identifies trends and opportunities for improvement in pharmacy performance.
Business Planning

External Basic Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Pharm D from an accredited institution.
– Active pharmacist licensure in relevant states within the district.
– Certified Immunizer or commitment to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
– Minimum one year of pharmacy experience, including prescription filling, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, pharmacy technology systems, and insurance billing (additional experience may be required based on state regulations).
– Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws through prior prescription dispensing experience.
– Internal candidates must have an average leadership rating of 3.0 or above on their last performance review and no written disciplinary actions in the past year.
Preferred Qualifications
– Supervisory experience with planning, organizing, and directing pharmacy staff.
– At least 6 months of pharmacy experience with Walgreens Co.
– Internal candidates should have an average leadership rating of 3.7 or higher on their last performance review.
