The Philanthropic Advisor will play a pivotal role in strategically building, cultivating, stewarding, soliciting, and managing a portfolio of planned giving from current donors and prospects. This position involves developing enduring relationships with high-value donors, affluent prospects, and notable volunteers. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of legacy donors and prospects while collaborating across the organization to facilitate both outright and planned gifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Donor Cultivation: Leverage fundraising expertise and strong relationship-building skills to nurture a portfolio of donors through personalized visits, written communication, phone outreach, and other communication methods. Develop and implement a comprehensive donor cultivation strategy for the entire portfolio.

  • Donor-Centric Approach: Identify opportunities for giving and relationship development, actively engaging with donors and prospects to foster long-term commitment to the mission and funding of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through planned giving vehicles.

  • Strategic Planning: Utilize a thorough understanding of development practices, principles, and fundraising strategies to create and execute innovative donor cultivation and solicitation plans tailored to specific donors.

  • Expertise Building: Maintain and enhance knowledge of planned giving, tax considerations, and fundraising principles to effectively communicate with donors.

  • Membership Confirmation: Confirm new members to the Danny Thomas St. Jude Society through timely and strategic follow-up on leads, thereby expanding the bequest program pipeline.

  • Technological Tools Utilization: Collect and document data to inform donor strategies; utilize specialized software for various giving methods.

  • Event Planning: Organize and execute local in-person Donor Appreciation Luncheons (DAL) and/or Donor Virtual Gatherings to express gratitude to current donors and introduce prospects to the mission of St. Jude.

  • Industry Knowledge: Remain current on internal and external trends, processes, and policies related to the industry. Ensure familiarity with facts pertaining to the mission, research, and patient care at St. Jude.

  • Representation: Represent ALSAC-St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with professionalism and integrity, reflecting positively on the organization and its fundraising efforts.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or more than five years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in planned giving.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and sustaining skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating and stewarding relationships with individuals.
  • Comprehensive understanding of individual fundraising and strategic moves management processes.
  • Ability to articulate ideas clearly and effectively in both written and spoken communication for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to optimize donor interactions and ensure comprehensive coverage of the assigned portfolio.

Travel Requirement: This role necessitates travel approximately 50% to 70% of the time, which may include evenings and weekends, as well as occasional overnight trips to Memphis, TN for professional development, meetings, and conferences.

Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is mandatory for this position. The role includes a company vehicle equipped with AAA membership, insurance coverage, a maintenance plan, and a fuel card for convenience.
