Job description:
Under the direct supervision of management, the custodian is responsible for executing daily cleaning tasks within patient rooms, nursing stations, lounges, restrooms, offices, and clinic areas, as well as any other assigned locations, in accordance with departmental standard procedures and facility objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
– Uphold all standards related to patient care services.
– Maintain compliance with established departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance programs, and environmental and infection control standards.
– Perform housekeeping duties with a focus on service excellence for fellow employees, patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
– Ensure a sanitary environment by:
– Implementing standardized cleaning methods as outlined in the cleaning manual and training.
– Cleaning and maintaining work carts.
– Conducting necessary pantry sanitation.
– Stocking storage areas with required supplies and linens.
– Appropriately storing supplies and equipment at the end of the shift.
– Disposing of trash and maintaining the cleanliness of waste receptacles.
– Completing cycle cleans as per the duty list, including the use of hand buffers.
– Identifying and reporting minor repairs to the Service Response Center.
– Execute the Housekeeping request process effectively:
– Greet and engage with patients.
– Schedule room cleaning times.
– Stock amenities for patients and guests.
– Maintain punctuality for cleaning appointments.
– Address service-related concerns.
– Extend gratitude to patients and guests.
– Replenish cleaned areas with supplies such as soap, hand sanitizer, paper towels, and sharps containers.
– Operate a single disc floor machine for spray buffing floors and vacuuming carpets.
– Ensure patient and unit data confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
– Foster professional development through participation in educational programs and workshops.
– Assist in evacuating ambulatory patients and residents during internal emergencies.
– Support nursing staff during community disasters by preparing extra beds and performing other designated duties.
– Communicate patient concerns and discomfort to the appropriate nursing staff when relayed by patients or visitors.
– Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is preferred.
– At least two verifiable job references from organizations known for exceptional customer service.
– A strong work history characterized by outstanding attendance.
– Ability to interact effectively with the patient population, demonstrating a high level of customer service and a “patient first” mindset.
– Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to ensure safe and efficient job performance.
– Legal authorization to work.
– After initial training, capability to properly utilize supplies, tools, and equipment, including telephones, digital scanning devices, and paging devices.
– Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and/or squat at least 50 pounds, stand and walk for 90% of the work period, and navigate stairs and uneven surfaces.
