Job description:
This position at OhioMHAS is centered on assisting adults in a residential environment to cultivate essential independent living and social skills. The selected staff member will engage directly with assigned consumers, implementing personalized care and behavior plans while fostering skills such as hygiene, medication management, meal preparation, budgeting, and social interaction.
Key responsibilities include maintaining a safe and supportive atmosphere, de-escalating crises, modeling professional conduct, and providing transportation for consumers to appointments as needed. Additionally, staff will collaborate closely with team members to create individualized service plans, document consumer progress, and uphold the cleanliness of the facility, thereby contributing to a structured and nurturing community.
Specific duties encompass:
– Assessing and evaluating the nursing and medical needs of hospitalized patients, including admissions, ongoing treatment, and discharges. This involves initiating and directing the implementation of nursing care plans, observing and documenting patient behavior and responses to medications, and providing professional nursing care such as administering medications as prescribed, educating patients about their medications, assisting with physical examinations, recording vital signs, and executing venipuncture.
– Directing and evaluating the delivery of psychiatric and nursing care administered by both professional and non-professional staff on the assigned shift. This includes monitoring medication administration, patient care, and the operation of medical equipment, as well as providing guidance and support for nursing staff as needed.
– Preparing and reviewing records, reports, and care plans, including individual treatment plans and nursing care plans. Responsibilities also include transcribing or verifying physician orders, writing nursing summaries, and participating in performance improvement and quality assurance processes.
– Participating as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and performing various miscellaneous tasks such as light housekeeping in patient areas, identifying and reporting safety concerns, attending required trainings, and managing unit shift breaks and lunches.
This is an hourly position represented by the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 bargaining unit, with a pay range starting at Step 1. The role involves working third shift with a combination of 4-12 hour and 4-8 hour shifts, including every other weekend and holiday off. It is based at our Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare Campus, located at 100 Hospital Drive, Athens, Ohio 45701.
Compensation details include:
– A $2000.00 new hire sign-on bonus, with $1000.00 payable after 120 days and $1000.00 after a year of service, without a contractual obligation.
– An hourly rate of $33.45, with an increase to $35.07 after 120 days.
– An additional $1.25 plus 10% of base pay per hour for afternoon and evening shift differentials.
– Annual pay increases along with a longevity supplement after five years of service.
Additional requirements include:
– Completion of a four-week (Monday-Friday) full-time orientation program.
– Availability to work weekends and holidays, with potential exposure to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior.

Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid license to practice nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse, issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing in accordance with Section 4723 of the Ohio Revised Code, along with proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration. Note that Licensed Practical Nurses providing dialysis treatment must also hold certification in IV Therapy as stipulated by Section 4723.17 of the Ohio Revised Code.
