Job description:
The Public Safety Aide (PSA) position is a non-sworn and non-certified role aimed at providing valuable professional work experience to individuals aspiring to pursue a career in law enforcement. This position offers a starting pay of $17.95 per hour and includes opportunities for tuition reimbursement and academy scholarships for eligible participants, as defined by departmental policies.
The PSA will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to processing arrestees, performing various jail-related tasks, providing assistance to police officers in the restraint and physical management of individuals in custody, and offering administrative support to the front desk officer. Additional responsibilities may include undertaking assigned non-peace officer duties.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
– Execute jail attendant duties, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures during the processing of arrests and searching of individuals taken into custody.
– Capture fingerprints and photographs, process court-related paperwork, and perform other related tasks as required.
– Maintain the front desk and booking area to promote operational safety and efficiency.
– Assist with lobby traffic, offering support to citizens and township employees.
– Provide support to police and fire personnel as needed, while performing various public safety duties that do not involve the responsibilities of a peace officer or firefighter.
– Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as assigned, ensuring activity logs are kept timely and precise.
– Stay informed on scheduled training to uphold a level of knowledge and proficiency necessary for the successful execution of assigned tasks.
– Demonstrate an understanding of and adhere to federal, state, and local laws as well as departmental policies related to the PSA position.
– Complete any other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
– High school diploma or equivalent.
– Minimum age of 18 years.
