Job description:
This position is responsible for overseeing the Quality Control (QC) Laboratory and leading a dedicated team of ten employees. Reporting directly to the Director of Laboratories, you will ensure optimal lab efficiency while adhering to environmental and quality management standards. Your role will be pivotal in guaranteeing that the lab consistently meets customer expectations through clearly defined and repeatable processes.
Key Responsibilities:
– Manage the daily operations of the QC laboratory, encompassing all testing procedures, record-keeping, staff supervision, and budget oversight.
– Uphold safety and environmental policies and procedures pertaining to laboratory operations and personnel.
– Provide leadership, supervision, and training to laboratory staff to enhance team performance.
– Employ problem-solving skills to assist both internal and external customers effectively.
– Ensure compliance with quality and environmental management system requirements.
– Oversee the calibration and maintenance of lab equipment to ensure proper functionality.
– Recommend new equipment and methodologies to improve laboratory processes.
– Review and maintain test methods and work instructions to uphold operational standards.
– Collaborate with manufacturing to enhance production processes.
– Coordinate activities with external testing laboratories.
– Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the laboratory environment.
Essential Skills:
– Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
– A minimum of three years of supervisory or management experience with teams of three to ten individuals.
– Over five years of laboratory experience in a QC production or manufacturing environment.
– At least one year of experience with gas chromatography (GC).
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
– Experience with instrumentation maintenance and calibration practices.
– Knowledge of analyst training programs and their execution.
– Ability to guide new test methods from initial development to implementation.
– Familiarity with process improvement initiatives.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP software.
– Strong leadership and collaborative skills, particularly in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
– Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
