General Summary
Under the guidance of supervisory staff and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Radiology Technologist is responsible for performing accurate and efficient diagnostic exams across all areas of general radiology. Technologists are expected to exhibit strong clinical skills while providing optimal images for interpretation. Emphasis on radiation protection principles and compliance with regulations is paramount. The role involves assuming responsibility for designated areas while offering clinical instruction as necessary, all in line with Corewell Health’s philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.
Essential Duties
- Conduct high-quality diagnostic examinations following the verification of patient identification and physician orders.
- Gather comprehensive patient histories and ensure documentation is complete in the medical record.
- Monitor patient safety during procedures.
- Execute radiographic and related patient care procedures tailored to the age and physical abilities of patients.
- Relay STAT requests to radiologists promptly.
- Maintain effective communication with customer service, administrative, medical staff, and peers at both inter- and intra-department levels.
- Operate diagnostic imaging equipment proficiently and adhere to protocols for reporting malfunctions or quality control issues.
- Utilize ALARA standards to minimize radiation exposure for patients, staff, and oneself.
- Provide procedural information and education to patients and their families prior to examinations.
- Contribute to department efficiency by assisting colleagues and ensuring compliance with quality assurance and quality control measures.
- Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing hospital computer systems for order verification, schedule viewing, and information transmission to PACS.
- Assist in training new staff and students.
- Ensure examination equipment is sanitized between patients and that exam rooms are clean and adequately stocked with linens and supplies.
- Maintain competency across all assigned areas, including fluoroscopic and general diagnostic procedures.
Qualifications
- Required: Graduation from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited Radiography program.
- Training acquired at the student level is required.
- CRT-Radiographer (R) – ARRT certification is required upon hire.
- CRT-Radiologic Technologist Registration – ARRT certification must be obtained within 180 days.
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required upon hire.
