General Summary
Under supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Radiology Technologist will perform accurate and efficient diagnostic exams across all areas of general radiology. Technologists are expected to exhibit strong clinical skills and deliver the highest quality images for interpretation. This role involves applying principles of radiation protection and adhering to regulations while taking responsibility for designated areas, in addition to providing clinical instruction as necessary. It is essential to align with Corewell Health’s philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care at all times.

Essential Duties

  • Execute quality diagnostic exams after confirming patient identification and physician orders.
  • Obtain and document accurate patient histories in the medical record.
  • Monitor patients during procedures to ensure their safety.
  • Perform radiographic and related patient care procedures using age-appropriate methods tailored to the patient’s physical abilities and limitations.
  • Ensure timely communication of STAT requests to the radiologist.
  • Communicate effectively with customer service, administrative staff, medical staff, and peers at both inter- and intra-departmental levels.
  • Proficiently operate diagnostic imaging equipment and adhere to established protocols for addressing malfunctions or quality control issues.
  • Utilize ALARA standards to minimize radiation exposure for patients, staff, and oneself.
  • Provide patients and their families with procedural information and education prior to each exam.
  • Enhance departmental operations by assisting colleagues and maintaining quality assurance and control compliance.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using hospital computer systems for verifying orders, viewing schedules, and transmitting information to PACS.
  • Assist in the training of students and new hires.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization by ensuring equipment is sanitized between patients and that exam rooms are properly stocked with linens and supplies.
  • Maintain competency in all assigned areas, including but not limited to fluoroscopic, general diagnostic, orthopedic, and operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • A degree from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited Radiography program is required.
  • Training obtained at the student level is mandatory.
  • CRT-Radiologic Technologist Registration – ARRT as per the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required within 180 days.
  • CRT-Radiographer (R) – ARRT registration is required upon hire.
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the AHA American Heart Association or the ARC American Red Cross is required upon hire.
