General Summary
Under supervision and following established policies and procedures, the Radiology Technologist performs accurate and efficient diagnostic examinations across all areas of general radiology. Technologists must demonstrate strong clinical skills to produce the highest quality images for interpretation, apply principles of radiation protection, and ensure compliance with regulations. They are responsible for their designated area and provide clinical instruction when appropriate. In all activities, they uphold the Corewell Health philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.

Essential Duties

  • Execute quality diagnostic exams after verifying patient identification and physician orders.
  • Acquire and document an accurate patient history in the medical record.
  • Monitor patients throughout procedures to ensure safety.
  • Conduct radiographic and related patient care procedures using age-appropriate methods, considering the patient’s physical abilities and limitations.
  • Relay STAT requests to radiologists in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively within inter/intra-departmental teams, including customer service, administrative staff, medical personnel, and peers.
  • Proficiently operate diagnostic imaging equipment and adhere to policies regarding malfunctions or quality control failures.
  • Utilize ALARA standards to minimize radiation exposure for patients, staff, and oneself.
  • Provide procedural information and education to patients and their families prior to each exam.
  • Contribute to the department’s efficient operations by assisting colleagues and complying with quality assurance and control standards.
  • Navigate hospital computer systems effectively for order verification, schedule viewing, and information transmission to PACS.
  • Assist in the training of students and new hires.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned between patients, and that exam rooms are properly stocked with linens and supplies.
  • Maintain competency in all assigned areas, including but not limited to fluoroscopic, general diagnostic, orthopedic, and operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited radiography program is required.
  • Training obtained at the student level is required.
  • CRT-Radiologic Technologist Registration – ARRT American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required within 180 days.
  • CRT-Radiographer (R) – ARRT American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required upon hire.
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the AHA American Heart Association or the ARC American Red Cross is required upon hire.
