GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, this role involves the accurate and efficient execution of diagnostic exams across all areas of general radiology. The Radiology Technologist is expected to exhibit strong clinical skills to produce optimal images for diagnostic interpretation while prioritizing radiation safety and adhering to regulatory requirements. Additionally, this position involves assuming responsibility for designated areas and providing appropriate clinical instruction. The incumbent will consistently uphold the Corewell Health philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.

Essential Duties

  • Conduct high-quality diagnostic exams following verification of patient identification and physician orders.
  • Obtain and document an accurate patient history in the medical record.
  • Monitor patients throughout procedures to ensure their safety.
  • Perform radiographic and related patient care procedures using age-appropriate methods tailored to the patient’s physical capabilities or limitations.
  • Ensure that STAT requests are communicated to the radiologist promptly.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, administrative staff, medical personnel, and colleagues at all levels.
  • Proficiently operate diagnostic imaging equipment and adhere to protocols for addressing malfunctions or quality control issues.
  • Employ ALARA standards to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and oneself.
  • Provide procedural explanations and education to patients and their families prior to each exam.
  • Contribute to the department’s smooth operation by assisting colleagues and complying with quality assurance and quality control measures.
  • Accurately utilize hospital computer systems to verify orders, view schedules, and transmit information to PACS.
  • Assist in training new employees and students.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination spaces by ensuring equipment is sanitized between patients and that exam rooms are appropriately stocked with linens and supplies.
  • Maintain competency in all assigned areas, including fluoroscopic, general diagnostic, orthopedic, and operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited Radiography program.
  • Training acquired at the student level is required.
  • CRT-Radiologic Technologist Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required within 180 days.
  • CRT-Radiographer (R) certification from ARRT is required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required upon hire.
