Job description:
Under supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing accurate and efficient diagnostic exams across all areas of general radiology. The technologist will exhibit strong clinical skills to ensure the production of optimal images for interpretation, while applying principles of radiation protection and adhering to all regulatory guidelines. This role also entails assuming responsibility for designated areas and providing clinical instruction as necessary, all while upholding Beaumont’s philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.
Essential Functions:
– Conduct quality diagnostic exams following patient identification verification and physician orders.
– Gather and accurately document patient history in the medical record.
– Monitor patients throughout procedures to guarantee their safety.
– Perform radiographic and related patient care procedures, utilizing age-appropriate methods considering patient physical abilities and limitations.
– Ensure that STAT requests are communicated to the radiologist promptly.
– Maintain effective communication with various stakeholders, including customer service, administrative staff, medical personnel, and peers.
– Demonstrate proficient operation of diagnostic imaging equipment, following protocols for any malfunctions or quality control issues.
– Adhere to ALARA standards to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and oneself.
– Provide patients and their families with informational education about procedures prior to examinations.
– Support the effective operation of the department by collaborating with colleagues and ensuring compliance with quality assurance and quality control standards.
– Utilize hospital computer systems efficiently for order verification, schedule viewing, and information transmission to PACS.
– Participate in training for students and new hires.
– Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and examination rooms, ensuring proper stocking of linens and supplies.
– Uphold competency in all assigned areas, including but not limited to fluoroscopic, general diagnostic, orthopedic, and operative procedures.
Qualifications:
– Graduate from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited Radiography program is required.
– Training received at the student level is essential.
– Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (CRT) from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) must be obtained within 180 days of hire.
– Certification as a Radiographer (R) from ARRT is required upon hire.
– Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire.
Physical Demands:
– Rarely lift items from floor to waist exceeding 5 lbs, occasionally up to 10 lbs.
– Occasionally lift items from waist to waist exceeding 5 lbs, occasionally up to 35 lbs.
– Rarely lift items from waist to chest or overhead exceeding 5 lbs, occasionally up to 10 lbs and 10 lbs respectively.
– Bilateral carry of items exceeding 5 lbs, rare up to 25 lbs; unilateral carry rarely exceeding 10 lbs.
