GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Radiology Technologist executes precise and efficient diagnostic examinations across all areas of general radiology. The technologist is expected to exhibit strong clinical skills, ensuring the production of high-quality images for interpretation. Adherence to radiation protection principles is essential, and compliance with regulations must be maintained. The technologist will take responsibility for designated areas and provide clinical instruction when appropriate, always embodying the Corewell Health philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Execute quality diagnostic exams following verification of patient identification and physician orders.
- Gather and document accurate patient history in the medical record.
- Monitor patients throughout procedures to ensure safety.
- Perform radiographic and related patient care procedures utilizing age-appropriate methods tailored to the patient’s physical capabilities and limitations.
- Ensure that STAT requests are communicated to the radiologist promptly.
- Maintain effective communication with customer service, administrative staff, medical staff, and peers at both inter- and intra-department levels.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating diagnostic imaging equipment and adhere to policies regarding malfunctions or quality control issues.
- Utilize ALARA standards to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and oneself.
- Provide procedural information and education to patients and their families prior to each exam.
- Support departmental operations by assisting colleagues and ensuring compliance with quality assurance and quality control measures.
- Efficiently and accurately utilize hospital computer systems for order verification, schedule viewing, and information transmission to PACS.
- Assist in training students and new hires.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper stocking of exam rooms, ensuring equipment is sanitized between patients.
- Uphold competency in all assigned areas, including fluoroscopic, general diagnostic, orthopedic, and operating procedures.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training:
- Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited Radiography program.
- Must obtain registration within six months of the hire date.
Work Experience:
- Relevant training acquired at the student level.
Certification, Licensure, Registration:
- Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; must maintain good standing with ARRT.
Other Qualifications:
- Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association and/or the American Red Cross required at hire.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Effort:
- The position requires the ability to frequently push/pull objects weighing up to 30 lbs. with assistance; occasionally lift items over 50 lbs. with support; and frequently lift up to 40 lbs.
- Employees must consistently perform simple motor skills such as standing, walking, and basic manipulative actions like writing. They will often perform moderately challenging manipulative tasks, such as positioning patients.
- Constant engagement in gross body coordination is necessary, alongside frequent tasks requiring hand-eye coordination, such as collecting specimens for lab transport.
- Walking and standing are constant requirements; sitting for prolonged durations is occasional, and frequent bending is necessary when caring for patients in bed.
- Employees are required to constantly see objects at varying distances and hear normal sounds amid background noise, such as phone or intercom alerts, as well as differentiate sounds like equipment alarms.
Work Environment:
- Employees may frequently be exposed to ionizing radiation and potentially hazardous materials such as blood, body tissues, or fluids, as well as dust, toxins, and other chemical hazards. While exposure to elevated humidity, electrical hazards, or toxic substances is rare, there may be fluctuations in temperature and contact with grease and oil.
