General Summary
Under supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Radiology Technologist Lead will perform accurate and efficient diagnostic examinations across all areas of general radiology. Technologists are expected to demonstrate strong clinical skills, ensuring the production of high-quality images for interpretation while applying principles of radiation protection and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities also include overseeing a designated area and providing clinical instruction as appropriate, while consistently adhering to Corewell Health’s philosophy of Patient and Family-Centered Care.

Essential Duties

  • Conduct quality diagnostic exams, ensuring verification of patient identification and physician orders.
  • Collect and document an accurate patient history in the medical record.
  • Monitor patients throughout procedures to guarantee their safety.
  • Execute radiographic and associated patient care procedures utilizing age-appropriate methods respectful of patients’ physical abilities and limitations.
  • Relay STAT requests to the radiologist promptly.
  • Maintain effective inter- and intra-departmental communication with customer service, administrative, medical staff, and peers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating diagnostic imaging equipment and adhere to policies regarding malfunctions or quality control failures.
  • Implement ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) standards to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and oneself.
  • Provide procedural information and education to patients and their families prior to examinations.
  • Support the operational efficiency of the department by assisting colleagues and maintaining compliance with quality assurance and quality control standards.
  • Utilize hospital computer systems effectively for verifying orders, viewing schedules, and transmitting information to PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System).
  • Participate in the training of students and new hires.
  • Ensure that equipment is sanitized between patients and that exam rooms are clean and well-stocked with necessary supplies and linens.
  • Maintain competency across all assigned areas, including fluoroscopic, general diagnostic, orthopedic, and operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited radiography program.
  • Completion of training at the student level is required.
  • Current CRT-Radiologic Technologist Registration from the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) is required within 180 days.
  • CRT-Radiographer (R) certification from ARRT is required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the AHA (American Heart Association) or ARC (American Red Cross) is required upon hire.
