Job description:

Position Details: This part-time role requires availability for 2-3 days per week during the afternoon shift from 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., with a rotation every other weekend. A mandatory orientation will be conducted during the first week from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The minimum compensation is set at $17.67 per hour, with an additional $1.60 per hour afternoon premium after 3 p.m. and a $1.15 per hour weekend premium.

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Patient Access Registration Front Line Manager, the Acute Care Hospital Registrar 1 is responsible for ensuring a smooth and timely registration and admission process. Duties include gathering accurate demographic, clinical, and insurance information; collecting necessary payments such as co-pays and deductibles; performing initial financial screenings for self-pay and out-of-network patients before referring them to Financial Advisors as appropriate; and providing exemplary customer service including patient navigation.

Essential Functions:

  • Welcome patients with a friendly and professional demeanor, directing them to the relevant services while promptly addressing and apologizing for any delays.
  • Conduct patient registrations for varying visit types through the EPIC system, ensuring accurate capture and documentation of all required demographic and financial information.
  • Assess patients’ insurance details, identifying the correct insurance plan and documenting the information in the EPIC system while facilitating the use of electronic registration tools where applicable.
  • Verify patient information with insurance providers and collect necessary documents, effectively communicating with patients and medical offices regarding authorization and referral requirements.
  • Review and collect consent forms and relevant documentation, educating patients on their rights and responsibilities, and adhering to compliance standards as outlined in hospital regulations.
  • Act as a financial advocate by screening self-pay and out-of-network patients and referring them to financial assistance programs. Initiate payment plans as necessary while explaining funding options to patients.
  • Process receipts and maintain accurate financial records, utilizing audits and controls to ensure cash handling is conducted safely and accurately.
  • Manage clerical responsibilities including transcribing physician orders, preparing patient charts, and maintaining appropriate supply inventories.
  • Identify potential duplicate medical records and facilitate necessary merges to ensure accurate patient information.
  • Support training efforts by serving as a preceptor to newly hired staff members.
  • Maintain productivity standards while delivering exceptional service to both clinical and administrative teams, contributing to process improvement initiatives.
  • Perform general clerical tasks, including data entry, faxing, and patient communications.

Qualifications:
Required:
