This itinerant position provides a comprehensive array of vocational rehabilitation counseling services to a diverse clientele, including individuals with low vision or blindness, transitioning students, and adults seeking training and employment within a designated geographic area. The selected professional will engage with vocational rehabilitation (VR) clients, businesses, community partners, and service providers to facilitate competitive integrated employment (CIE), helping clients achieve substantial gainful activity and career advancement opportunities. Responsibilities include developing referral sources within the assigned territory, managing or increasing caseloads as directed by the supervisor, and creating individualized plans for employment (IPEs) that incorporate SMART goals. The professional will actively engage clients, document their journey thoroughly, and ensure accurate data entry, including the collection of source documentation as necessary. Proficiency in the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and its amendments, along with adherence to BSBP policies and procedures, is required.
The official workstation for this role will be the selected candidate’s home, with the understanding that it is an itinerant position entailing travel, compliant with the LEO Remote Work Policy, and requires access to the Detroit Office located at Cadillac Building, 3038 W. Grand Blvd, Suite 4-450, Detroit, MI 48202. All work must be conducted within the state of Michigan. Candidates residing outside of Michigan must be prepared to relocate within or near the assigned service territory.
Required Education and Experience
Education: A master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, guidance and counseling, special education, social work, psychology, occupational therapy, speech therapy, or physical therapy.
Experience:
- Rehabilitation Counselor 9: No specific type or amount of experience is required.
- Rehabilitation Counselor 10: One year of professional experience providing rehabilitation counseling services equivalent to a Rehabilitation Counselor 9.
- Rehabilitation Counselor P11: Two years of professional experience providing rehabilitation counseling services equivalent to a Rehabilitation Counselor, including one year at the level of Rehabilitation Counselor 10; or three years of professional experience coordinating rehabilitation services equivalent to a Rehabilitation Services Coordinator, including one year equivalent to a Rehabilitation Services Coordinator P11.
