Primary Function/Goals/Objectives:
The Research Operator 1 is responsible for the blending, processing, filling, and sterilization of both liquid and powdered nutritional products for infants and adults, operating within either the Pilot Plant or Product Research Center (PRC). Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, material handling and dispensing, cleaning, equipment operation (including scales, portable pumps, and heat treatment systems), temperature monitoring, housekeeping, allergen control, labeling and finishing of final product packages, and product sampling.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Uphold departmental standards and expectations for teamwork and customer service.
  • Exhibit job proficiency in skills relevant to the current position.
  • Maintain consistency in applying and retaining learned skills.
  • Comply with cGMP regulations and adhere to quality assurance protocols.
  • Execute tasks accurately and promptly.
  • Take active responsibility for EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) performance by participating in Abbott’s EHS initiatives.
  • Follow all relevant policies, procedures, and expectations for assigned responsibilities.
  • Execute manufacturing processes as per approved work orders.
  • Conduct cleaning, CIP, and preparation of necessary equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness in work areas.
  • Achieve Better Process Control certification.
  • Perform environmental monitoring sampling.
  • Standardize and utilize pH meters, adjusting levels as required.
  • Prepare blends, slurries, and solutions for production.
  • Manage heating and cooling of tanks and mixers.
  • Oversee bulk liquid transfers to tankers and refrigerated trucks.

Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor’s degree in a technical field is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a production environment, preferably in drug, food, or beverage manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula, adult nutrition, and performance nutrition. Knowledge of food processing techniques and relevant documentation standards is essential.
  • Ability to read and interpret work order documents, troubleshoot equipment issues, and operate powered industrial vehicles. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills are also necessary.
