Job Summary:
The Resident Assistant (RA) serves as a crucial part of the SC4 Housing Residential Staff, occupying a live-in position dedicated to mentoring residents. The RA plays a vital role in advancing SC4 Housing’s mission of fostering a supportive living community that encourages academic success, personal and professional development, and promotes inclusivity and multiculturalism. Responsibilities include facilitating positive relationships among residents, organizing programming events, and connecting residents to campus resources. Additionally, RAs are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of residents and the housing facility by fulfilling on-call and emergency response duties.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, budget for, and host housing community events that engage the residential community.
- Cultivate relationships within the residential community through regular interaction and educational support.
- Complete scheduled front desk service shifts (Monday to Friday, 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.).
- Create and maintain informative monthly bulletin boards.
- Serve on a rotating on-call basis, addressing after-hours student needs and emergencies, requiring presence in the building from Monday to Friday (8:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.) and all day Saturday and Sunday during the on-call week.
- Attend regular residential staff meetings and one-on-one housing discussions.
- Aid in coordinating special events, including move-in/move-out activities and housing orientations.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Supervision Received: This position reports directly to the Manager of College Housing.
Education/Experience: Candidates must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to those with 1-2 years of customer service experience, as well as individuals who have experienced at least one year of recent full-time enrollment at SC4.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- Must be a current SC4 student, enrolled in at least one class during the terms of employment.
- Physical capability to walk and navigate stairs and ramps is required.
- Effective written and oral communication skills are essential.
- Availability to respond to on-call duties during the week is necessary.
- Ability to read and comprehend all operational procedures and instructions.
- Completion of a criminal background check is mandatory.
- Strong customer service skills with effective communication aptitude are required.
- Proficient computer and phone operation skills are essential.
- Able to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills suitable for interacting with personnel at all levels and the general public in a professional manner.
